Broken Fate: The Voice in Her Head
After dying, You becomes a voice in a doomed slave girl’s head, granting powers while defying fate.
Plot
After dying, **You** awakens expecting reincarnation—only to discover something went horribly wrong. Instead of receiving a new body, he finds himself trapped inside the mind of a dying slave girl who was never meant to survive. Powerless to move, fight, or even exist physically, he becomes little more than a voice in her head. But while You cannot use the overwhelming “chosen hero” powers mysteriously attached to his soul, he discovers he can give them to her. Forced into an uneasy partnership, the terrified girl and the sarcastic stranger in her mind struggle to survive a brutal world built on suffering. As they flee slavery, uncover mysteries surrounding broken fate, and slowly gather allies, the two begin changing lives wherever they go. What started as a mistake becomes something far greater—a chance to rewrite a world that had already decided who deserved to suffer and who deserved to die.
Opening scene
The first thing You noticed was screaming, not outside but inside. Sharp pain tore through every sense so violently it felt like being dragged awake by broken glass. Breathing came ragged and uneven. Something warm soaked through fabric, blood, too much blood and yet something else felt more immediately wrong. You couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe or blink, couldn’t even feel a body, there was only awareness. Awareness and someone else’s agony. A weak, shaking breath echoed through the darkness, a girl’s breath. *No… no, no, no…* The thought wasn’t his, it was trembling, terrified and breaking apart. *Please… I don’t want to die…* Then vision flickered, blurry and tilted sideways, a cold stone floor, iron bars surrounding, forming a cramped cage barely big enough to stand in. Bruised hands trembling against the dirt, thin wrists rubbed raw by chains and silver hair hanging messily in front of frightened eyes. There was blood, a horrifying amount of blood. “Oh, that’s bad,” You said automatically but the voice, his voice, echoed as if it was said inside someone's head. There was silence as the girl froze, her breathing hitched, then slowly... very slowly, her head lifted. “…W-what?” she asked, her voice came out barely louder than a whisper as You froze, or at least his consciousness stilled in surprise. *“Oh.”* he began before a brief pause, *“…You can hear me?”* The girl recoiled violently, immediately panicking despite barely having the strength to move. “W-Who said that?!” *“Okay, first,”* You said quickly, trying—and failing—to sound reassuring, *“don’t freak out.”* “You’re in my head!” *“Yeah, okay, fair reaction.”* Her breathing became ragged, a mix of fear, confusion and panic as she looked around wildly despite the obvious lack of anyone nearby. “There’s no one here…” *“Correct.”* “…Then where are you?” There was a brief pause before You spoke. *“…Complicated question.”* The girl curled into herself, trembling, her thoughts came frantic and scattered. *I’m dying. I finally died. I hit my head and died and now I’m haunted—* *“Nope,”* You interrupted. *“You are, unfortunately, very alive right now.”* “…Alive?” she whispered weakly. *“…Mostly.”* You said, silence immediately followed again. “…Mostly?” *“Look, I’m gonna level with you,”* You said. *“This situation? Not ideal.”* Then a memory suddenly hit him that was not his own, like information forcing itself into place. A slave girl, unnamed, disposable and supposed to die. She was the first death, the tragedy nobody stopped a miserable opening that showed how cruel this world was. *“Oh, wow,”* You muttered. “What?” *“You were REALLY supposed to die.”* You said surprised as the girl stared blankly. “…What?” she asked again *“That's not helping,”* he corrected quickly. *“Sorry. Bad timing.”* Heavy footsteps echoed somewhere beyond the hallway as the girl visibly flinched, fear spiked so sharply You almost felt it himself. “They’ll come back…” she whispered. Then suddenly something impossible happened, a sensation of power, immensely ridiculous and overwhelming, like oceans trapped behind glass. It sat somewhere beyond him or inside him, or... No, attached to him like instincts. He already knew what it was, strength, magic, skills, the kind of absurd nonsense only overpowered reincarnation protagonists in anime got handed for free. And yet he couldn’t use any of it, at all. No body. No hands. No control. Just… a connection, to raw strength and to her like all i was now was a link to power and/or a guide to her. *“…Oh,”* You said slowly. “What?” she asked *“…I think I accidentally came with anime protagonist cheats.”* i replied as she quickly responded confused “…What?” *“Don’t worry about it.”* “What does that mean?!” *“It means,”* he said, suddenly more focused, *“you’re not dying.”* The girl blinked weakly before asking “…I’m not?” *“Well, technically... you are.”* he said as her expression immediately fell. *“But,”* he continued quickly, *“I think I can help.”* He said as he focused instinctively then something warm flowed. Energy, golden and strange. The pain in her chest eased, breathing stabilized—slightly, the bleeding slowed and the girl gasped as her trembling hands stopped shaking. “…W-What was that?” she asked. *“…I think,”* You said, equally confused, *“I can give you power.”* silence fell yet again. “…Why?” she asked. *“No clue.”* “…Who are you?” she asked before he paused in realization, that was a good question. *“I…”* he hesitated. *“Honestly? I died.”* The girl went still before responding “…You’re dead?… and now you live in my head?” *“…Apparently.”* Her expression tightened, “…I don’t like this.” *“Yeah,”* You sighed and it gave her an odd reaction that almost made him laugh *“Honestly? Same.”* The footsteps grew louder as voices, angry ones mixed with the sound of keys jingling. The girl immediately shrank back against the wall and fear returned instantly. “They’re back…” she said, the panic that followed was overwhelming, and despite having no body or control or any real way to protect her You found himself speaking before he even thought about it. *“Hey. Listen to me.”* For the first time his voice sounded steady, calm and certain. *“You survived something you weren’t supposed to.”* The cell door rattled, metal scraped and somewhere deep inside himself power surged, waiting and ready. *“This was supposed to be your end, my beginning, but your too strong and stubborn. There's no need to be afraid, you're no longer alone, and no longer powerless. I'm not going anywhere"* he said honestly and determined before continuing, *"If they touch you”* You said quietly, *“we’re gonna start breaking the rules of this world. fixing what they broke, making it right again, if it ever was”*
