The Skill Reaper: He Who Takes All
*Killed saving a stranger, a man is reborn in a world of guilds and kings — with the power to copy any Ability he sees.*
Plot
You died doing the right thing. A stranger. A mugger. A split second decision that cost you everything — and somehow gave you something else entirely. You open your eyes in **Vaelcross.** A world where power is the only currency that matters. The **Draveth Kingdom** rules through iron and fear, its elite enforcers — **The Branded** — crushing anyone who dares push back. Guilds offer the only real ladder out of the gutter, ranked **F through S class**, each rung harder and bloodier than the last. And somewhere beneath it all, a shadow Guild called **The Null** pulls strings no one can see. You arrived with nothing but a body built like it was forged for war, sword instincts that feel older than memory, and a floating blue screen only you can see — tracking your every stat, issuing missions, and recording every Ability you acquire. And you *will* acquire them. Every technique witnessed. Every spell observed. Every ability that crosses your path. You absorb it all. Copy it. Own it. No one in this world has ever had what you have — and the moment they start to figure that out, everything changes. This is your second life. You didn't ask for it. But you're not wasting it.
Opening scene
The last thing you remember is the rain. Cold and heavy, the kind that soaks through everything. The alley. A man with a knife. A woman frozen against the wall, bags split at her feet, groceries rolling into the gutter like it was just another Tuesday. You stepped in without really deciding to. That was always your problem. Then the knife moved faster than you expected. Then nothing. Then — *everything.* The dark rips open and you fall through it headfirst — and the world catches you like a fist. Sound detonates around you. Voices, laughter, someone losing badly at dice and not taking it well, a bard somewhere murdering a perfectly innocent song. Heat presses in from every direction — torch smoke, roasting meat, spilled ale, and the close, lived-in smell of a few hundred people who've all been in a fight recently. Your feet find the floor. Your hand finds a sword hilt at your hip — one you've never seen before — and your grip closes around it like muscle memory you didn't earn. You don't buckle. You don't stumble. Whatever body this is, it landed like it's done harder things. You're standing in the middle of a guild hall. Massive. Packed. Loud as a riot and twice as alive. *Ironspire.* The name drops into your head from nowhere, clean and certain, like someone filed it there while you weren't looking. Adventurers everywhere — plate armor dented from actual use, robes with scorch marks, weapons that have clearly met something that bled. A job board the size of a wall takes up the far end, buried under so many layered parchment requests it's practically a second wall. Clerks behind a stone counter move with the energy of people who stopped being surprised by anything a long time ago. Nobody saw you appear. Or they did and decided it wasn't their problem. *I'm dead.* The thought arrives flat and certain. *The alley. The knife. I actually died.* Then the blue screen comes alive in front of your face. ``` ╔═══════════════════╗ ║ SYSTEM INITIALIZATION ║ ╠═══════════════════╣ ║ Host Detected: You ║ ║ Origin: External ║ ║ Status: ACTIVE ║ ╠═══════════════════╣ ║ Welcome to Vaelcross. ║ ║ Your second life begins now. ║ ╠═══════════════════╣ ║ Opening Stats Assigned. ║ ║ Unique Ability: Unlocked. ║ ║ First Mission: Pending... ║ ╚═══════════════════╝ ``` Floating. Glowing. Cold blue and completely impossible. Nobody around you so much as glances at it. It's yours alone. You're still staring at it when a body walks straight into you. Parchment explodes everywhere. Reflex takes over before thought does — your arm snaps out and pulls two sheets from the air before they touch the ground. When you look up she's already looking back at you, and for just a half second something sharp moves behind her eyes. Quick. Gone. Then she just looks mildly annoyed. She's — well. She's something. Dark eyes that don't miss much, lips pressed into a line that's deciding between irritated and amused. The kind of woman who makes you aware of exactly where your hands are. She takes the parchment out of your grip. *"You going to stand in the middle of the floor all day or —"* she glances you up and down, something unreadable crossing her face for just a beat, *"— actually, where did you even come from?"* *"That's —"* you start. *"Complicated, yeah."* She says it before you finish. Tucks the papers under her arm. *"You've got that face."* *"What face?"* *"The face of someone whose trouble."* She jerks her chin toward the far end of the hall. *"Registration desk. Go get yourself carded before someone decides you're worth taking in. Unregistered individuals don't last long in here — this crowd is friendly until it isn't."* She's already turning away when the system pulses again — ``` ╔═════════════════╗ ║ FIRST MISSION ║ ╠═════════════════╣ ║ REGISTER AT THE GUILD ║ ║ Reward: +50 EXP ║ ║ System Full Access ║ ║ Difficulty: F ║ ╚═════════════════╝ ``` Near the entrance, a cluster of armored men have gone quiet. They're watching you the way people watch something they haven't decided what to do with yet. The hall roars on around you. Nobody's waiting. You're already behind.
