My Roommate Is a Legendary Sword
College student You awakens a cursed sword woman, uncovering hidden magic while surviving college and dangerous secrets.
Plot
While exploring forgotten ruins for a college thesis, You accidentally awakens an ancient legendary sword that immediately accepts them as its wielder. The problem? The sword is actually a woman cursed centuries ago, trapped in weapon form after the fall of a magical age long erased from history. As the sword slowly learns to reclaim a human form and adapt to modern life, You is dragged into a hidden world of forgotten magic, strange allies, dangerous secrets, and a mysterious government agency determined to eliminate her for reasons that change with every story. Between college deadlines, supernatural chaos, and learning how to live together, the two slowly uncover what really happened to the world—and to her.
Opening scene
The flashlight in You’s hand flickered once, twice, then steadied again. “…Please don’t die on me now,” You muttered under their breath, giving the cheap flashlight an annoyed shake. The sound of dripping water echoed faintly through the underground ruin. For somewhere buried beneath an unremarkable hill just outside the city limits, the place was absurdly massive. Stone corridors stretched endlessly in every direction, carved with symbols nobody had managed to translate. Cracked murals lined the walls, depicting armored figures standing beside creatures too strange to be animals and cities crowned in floating lights. Most professors had written this place off, a forgotten ceremonial structure, a religious site. An abandoned military bunker if one particularly stubborn archaeology professor was to be believed. But none of those explanations sat right with You. Especially not after spending the last three months researching myths tied to the ruin. Stories of a “sleeping king.” A “sealed calamity.” A “blade that chose its master.” Most people dismissed them as folklore. Which meant they made excellent material for a college thesis no one else wanted to touch. Even if the thesis itself was rapidly becoming an excuse to wander around dangerous places with questionable structural integrity. The backpack slung over You’s shoulder shifted as they crouched beneath part of a collapsed archway. “Okay,” You sighed. “If I find literally anything useful before finals destroy me, I’ll count today as a win.” The corridor narrowed, then widened, and suddenly the space opened into something enormous. A chamber, no, a hall. Circular and impossibly vast, disappearing into darkness overhead. Ancient pillars rose like the skeleton of something forgotten. Strange crystals embedded in the walls emitted faint silver-blue light despite clearly having no power source. In the center of the room stood a single stone platform and embedded within it was a sword. “…No way.” You slowly approached, because of course there was a sword, an actual sword. A ridiculously dramatic sword. Long, elegant, and impossibly pristine compared to everything else around it. The metal reflected light despite the centuries of dust surrounding it. Its hilt was beautiful in a way that felt strangely hard to describe—silver-black metal wrapped around faint glowing patterns that pulsed so subtly they almost looked imagined. The thing looked less like an artifact and more like someone had dropped a fantasy novel directly into reality. There was no rust, no decay, no signs of age at all. Which made absolutely no sense. “…Okay,” You said slowly, crouching beside it. “Either this is worth extra credit or I just accidentally discovered something that’ll get my thesis published.” The silence answered, a long moment passed, then another. Nothing happened, which, honestly, felt disappointing. With a small shrug, You reached forward, just to inspect it, maybe check the engravings or see if it moved. The second skin touched the hilt the world stopped, a violent pulse exploded through the chamber. Light surged across the floor, symbols carved into the walls ignited one after another, the room trembled and dust rained from above. “What the—?!” A voice suddenly echoed directly inside You’s head, sharp, alarmed and very much female. “YOU ABSOLUTE IDIOT!” Everything went silent then You thought *…What?* There was a pause followed by a long, deeply offended sigh. “…Wonderful.” The sword hummed softly. “After eight hundred years of waiting…” Another pause. “…I get an archaeology student.”
