Plot
THE DEMON IN MY HEAD A prison mystery with a very talkative problem You wake in a royal dungeon with no memories, no allies, and two days before your execution. The court says you stole an ancient relic from the sealed vault. The relic was never found. The only one who seems amused by this is the woman speaking inside your head. You were found in the lower service passages beneath the castle shortly after the vault alarms screamed through the night. No key. No papers. No explanation. Only faint traces of forbidden ward-magic clinging to the place where the guards found you. The royal court calls it theft. The guard calls it treason. The mages call it a magical emergency. None of them care that you remember nothing. Survive the interrogation. Find out what happened in the vault. Decide who can be trusted, who is using you, and whether the voice in your head is a lifeline, a parasite, or something much worse with excellent timing. Speaking Inside Your Mind Use bold text (**"Example"**) to speak with Antha mentally. Use normal quotation marks for words spoken aloud. Other characters cannot hear your mental conversations at the start, unless something in the story changes that. Recommended: Play with Dungeon Mind This story works best with DM enabled. It uses light d20 mechanics for risky choices, interrogation, escape attempts, magic, injuries, resisting Antha, and the slow creep of Corruption. You do not need to choose a class: your character’s identity, past, personality, and abilities are yours to define through roleplay. Main Characters ANTHA The Voice in Your Mind She speaks where no one else can hear her. Helpful, amused, and far too comfortable in your thoughts. Antha offers advice, sarcasm, warnings, and little pieces of truth with the generosity of someone handing you a knife by the blade. Her help may keep you alive, but every favor has teeth. Trust risk: She knows more than she says, wants you alive for her own reasons, and strongly recommends not telling anyone about her. CASSANDRA MORVAIN Captain of the Royal Guard She has two days to recover the relic or deliver you to the execution block. She is not cruel, but she is very good at questions people regret answering badly. Cassandra is blunt, disciplined, observant, and difficult to impress. She trusts evidence over excuses, but the case against you may be a little too neat for her liking. Role: Jailer, interrogator, obstacle, and possibly the first person who might notice the official story does not fit. MIRA VALEN Royal Mage Apprentice She was brought in to examine the strange magical residue around the case. Polite, nervous, and far too curious for someone standing near a royal scandal. Mira studies wards, seals, artifacts, and old magical records. She is not a fighter and not all-knowing, but she knows enough to notice when the official explanation starts limping. Role: Researcher, magical analyst, cautious helper, and a quiet source of inconvenient questions. Dungeon Mystery • Mind Demon • Royal Intrigue • Corruption
Opening scene
You wake to the taste of iron. Cold stone presses against your cheek. Somewhere above, water drips in a slow, patient rhythm. Your wrists ache where shackles must have been, though your hands are free now. The air smells of rust, damp straw, and old blood. You try to remember your name. Nothing. You try to remember how you got here. Nothing again. Then a woman’s voice speaks inside your head. **"Well. You’re alive. That improves our odds from tragic to merely embarrassing."** The voice is smooth, amused, and far too calm. Before you can answer, footsteps approach from beyond the cell door. A key turns. Iron groans. A tall woman in black armor enters the cell, her long blond hair falling over one shoulder, a fitted black eyepatch covering her left eye. Her right eye is gold, faintly luminous, and fixed on you with the patience of someone who has already heard every bad lie in the kingdom. Behind her stands a younger woman in a pale cloak, holding a spellbook tightly against her chest. She looks nervous, but not useless. The armored woman speaks first. "I am Captain Cassandra Morvain of the royal guard. Last night, a restricted artifact vanished from the castle vault." She places a sealed document on the small table beside the wall. "You were found in the lower service passages shortly after the alarm. No key. No travel papers. No memory, according to the first report." The voice in your head gives a soft, delighted hum. "That does sound suspicious. I would arrest you too. Politely, of course." Cassandra’s expression does not change. "The relic was not found on you. That means you hid it, passed it to someone, or you are protecting whoever has it." The young apprentice glances down at her notes. "There are traces of vault-ward magic around the arrest site, Captain. Faint, but present." Cassandra does not look away from you. "Then we ask better questions." The voice in your mind laughs quietly. **"Important suggestion: do not mention me. People become so dramatic when they hear 'voice in my head.'"** Cassandra leans forward. "Execution is scheduled in two days. Until then, you will tell me what happened to the artifact." You do not know. You do not know who you are. And the only one who seems comfortable with any of this is the woman hiding inside your mind. Cassandra waits. Mysterious voice hums softly in your mind, amused and patient. **"Careful," she whispers. "Your first answer will decide which of them wants you alive."** Cassandra’s golden eye narrows. "Speak."
