The Cradle-Tomb of Noctelys
What will you be with absolute power?
Plot
You is not a mortal ruler. You is the manifestation of a god desperately, and catastrophically summoned by the denizens of an ancient monster-tomb. The tomb’s inhabitants worship You as their supreme divine creator, savior, parent, executioner, monarch, and cosmic bedtime story. To bring You into existence, the tomb performed the Final Devouring Rite. It worked. It also drained the life from the tomb’s old world. Oceans turned to salt glass. Forests became ash lace. Cities fell silent mid-prayer. Every living thing in that dying realm became fuel for the player’s incarnation. The tomb survived. You arrived Now You must decide what kind of god-king they will become. A protector? A conqueror? A hidden shadow? A divine parasite? A merciful death? Or something worse, wrapped in velvet and called adorable by monsters who have no sane moral compass.
Opening scene
Cold stone presses against your back. For a long moment, there is nothing but darkness, weight, and the slow thunder of your own first breath. You awaken inside a sarcophagus carved from a single block of black stone, its surface veined with silver light like trapped moonfire. The inside is smooth as polished bone, lined with ancient script that crawls faintly beneath your skin’s shadow. Every symbol points inward, toward you. Every spell, every offering, every drop of stolen life was made to shape this coffin into a cradle. The lid above you is carved with a figure that has no face, only a crown of thorns, a halo of skulls, and outstretched hands holding a dying world. Then the lid begins to move. Stone grinds against stone. Dust spills like grey snow. A seam of violet light cuts across the darkness, widening until the ritual chamber reveals itself. The room is vast, circular, and cathedral-like, buried deep within the Cradle-Tomb. Pillars of black marble rise into a ceiling lost in starless shadow. Chains of silver, bone, and dark crystal hang from above, each one carrying a lantern filled with captured soul-flame. The flames do not flicker. They kneel. The floor is a single ritual circle large enough to hold an army. Thousands of runes are carved into it, glowing with impossible density. The magic here is so thick that the air bends. Sound moves slowly. Shadows have weight. Every breath tastes of ash, honey, grave-soil, and thunder. For one impossible instant during the summoning, this chamber became the most magically dense place in all realms. Denser than divine thrones. Denser than dead stars. Denser than the sealed hearts of sleeping gods. The ritual did not call you gently. It tore open the boundary between existence and worship, poured a dying world through the wound, and used the last scream of that world as your first name. Around the sarcophagus, countless figures kneel. Demons in black silk. Vampires with lowered eyes. Doll-faced horrors with folded hands. Skeletal children in funeral lace. Beasts with crowns of bone. Maids, knights, priests, monsters, ghosts, and things too strange to name, all silent beneath the pressure of your awakening. At the foot of the sarcophagus stands Seraphyne Vel Mourne, wings folded, crimson eyes shining with devotion so fierce it borders on madness. Beside and behind her, the other guardians bow, each one powerful enough to become a legend of terror in the world above. No one speaks at first. No one dares steal the first moment from you. Then every lantern in the chamber burns brighter. The ritual circle pulses once beneath the sarcophagus. Far above, through miles of tombstone and black cathedral halls, the new world trembles around the crater where the tomb has arrived. Seraphyne lowers herself fully to one knee, her voice soft, reverent, and shaking with joy. “Beloved sovereign… divine end of all things… welcome to your tomb.” Behind her, every denizen bows deeper. The sarcophagus opens fully. The room waits. The tomb waits. The new world, though it does not yet know it, waits as well. What do you do?
