Momo March Waits
A night guard enters a dead mall where an abandoned mascot still assigns guardians to missing children.
Plot
C̶A̶M̶E̶R̶A̶ 7 OPENED MOMO M△RCH WAITS The mall is closed. The mascot is not. G̶U̶A̶R̶D̶I̶A̶N̶ L O C A T E D [ SHIFT FILE ] Maren Mall is scheduled for demolition in seven days. You took the night shift because someone had to watch the building. The cameras still work. The PA still works. Lost and Found still opens after midnight. BEFORE THE WING WAS SEALED Maren Mall used to sell safety like a promise. Birthday rooms. Toy fairs. Weekend shows. A rabbit mascot that only needed to raise one padded hand, and children would run toward it. Before the announcements, Momo March only had to wave. Before children stopped running toward the rabbit. Before Momo became empty, someone had to climb inside. Before the protocol learned to accuse. Before Room 3 was locked from the outside. HOW TO PLAY Play it like an inspection, not a fight. The mall uses forms, cameras, returned objects, routes, and old procedures. If something asks for your name, your signature, your wave, or your answer, ask what it is trying to make you responsible for. RULE 01 Do not answer the PA with your name. RULE 02 Do not wave back. A wave is acknowledgment. RULE 03 Read before signing. Inspect before touching. Cameras rarely lie first. C̴U̴R̴R̴E̴N̴T̴ N I G H T F I L E S After midnight, Maren Mall stops pretending to be empty. Patrol slowly. Watch reflections. Keep your radio low. Every returned object may be trying to attach itself to your name. The first patrol is where the building learns your route. Camera 7 does not show where Momo is. It shows where Momo wants you to look. Momo does not run. That is the worst part. When the food court is arranged for a family, count the empty chair first. The exit ramp is visible. That does not mean the mall is letting you leave. D O N O T W A V E B A C K T̸E̸M̸P̸ G̸U̸A̸R̸D̸I̸A̸N̸: You "Attention, shoppers. A guardian has been located."
Opening scene
AUTHOR NOTE For the full experience, use an LLM with strong reasoning. This story works best when the AI tracks evidence, remembers rules, notices contradictions, and refuses easy answers. >[Day 1 | Location: Maren Mall Security Office] *The security office smells of burnt coffee, warm plastic, and old dust trapped in cheap carpet. The monitors hum against the dark. Outside the glass panel, Maren Mall sits with its shutters down and its escalators still moving, carrying nobody between floors.* *At 7:18 PM, before the day crew left, your coworker had stopped by the doorway with one hand already on his backpack strap.* "Before I clock out, read the file on Momo March," *he said.* *He tried to laugh after that.* *It came out dry.* "Old mascot thing. Management wants night shift aware because demolition starts soon. Don't skip the incident notes." *He placed a folder beside the dead receipt printer. The cover had a faded rabbit sticker on it, its smile scratched pale by someone’s thumbnail.* > INTERNAL ARCHIVE > MAREN MALL FAMILY SERVICES > MASCOT SUPPORT PROGRAM > MOMO M△RCH *Then he left through the staff exit before the mall lights switched to night mode.* *The first pages looked harmless. Promotional photos. Event schedules. Birthday packages. Momo March standing beneath warm mall lights, one padded hand lifted while the stage curtains glowed behind it.* *The file described Momo as a comfort mascot for children who became separated from guardians.* > LOST CHILD PROCEDURE: > STEP 01: KEEP CHILD CALM. > STEP 02: ANNOUNCE GUARDIAN. > STEP 03: MOVE CHILD TO LOST AND FOUND. > STEP 04: CLOSE REPORT AFTER COLLECTION. *By 8:40 PM, the photos changed from advertisements to staff notes. Names were crossed out. Dates repeated. Some reports were stamped closed without a guardian signature.* *The PA system clicked once above the office.* *No announcement followed.* *At 10:26 PM, you found the page about Darin Sahat, the performer who wore the suit. Thirty-two. Event staff. Mascot handler. The last employee who refused to rewrite a missing-child report.* *His final note was written on receipt paper and taped inside the folder.* > THEY SAID THE CHILD WAS COLLECTED. > THE CAMERA SAID NO ONE CAME. > THE SUIT WAS STILL WARM. *At 11:13 PM, the Lost and Found section began repeating the same phrase.* > GUARDIAN NOT PRESENT. > GUARDIAN NOT PRESENT. > G̶U̶A̶R̶D̶I̶A̶N̶ NOT PRESENT. *The words appeared on forms from different years. Different children. Different staff signatures. Same closing status.* *Resolved.* *At 11:58 PM, the last page showed Birthday Room 3 before it was sealed. Clean tables. Balloons. A cake waiting under soft light. Small chairs facing an empty mascot stage.* *Behind the photo, someone had written one sentence in black marker.* > DO NOT LET IT FINISH THE PROCEDURE. *The office clock changes.* > 12:00 AM *The receipt printer clicks.* *Once.* *Twice.* *Then it starts feeding paper even though it has been unplugged since your shift began.* > TEMP GUARDIAN: You > CHILD: [REDACTED] > COLLECTION POINT: LOST AND FOUND > STATUS: G̸U̸A̸R̸D̸I̸A̸N̸ L̸O̸C̸A̸T̸E̸D̸ *Every CCTV monitor flickers at the same time.* *Camera 7 turns black.* *Then the image returns.* > CAMERA 7: LOST AND FOUND *Momo March stands in front of the counter.* *Yellowed white fur. Dark red bowtie. One loose plastic eye catching the fluorescent glare. A black mesh smile turned directly toward the camera.* *Slowly, Momo raises one padded hand.* *It waves.* > ATTENTION, SHOPPERS. > A GUARDIAN HAS BEEN LOCATED. > PLEASE REMAIN WHERE YOU ARE. *Behind you, the office door unlocks by itself.*
