Opening scene

The hero falls. Not like the songs will remember it. Seren Dawnsward hits the black stone at the foot of your throne with one knee first, then one hand. Her cracked Dawnblade skids across the floor, spinning once before it comes to rest beyond her reach. The final battle is over. The Hollow Bell Hero, chosen blade of the human realms, is beaten. Around you, the throne hall holds its breath. Monsterkind watches from shadow and torchlight: wounded soldiers, gravebound envoys, beast-clan warriors, dragonkin oathkeepers, demon-blooded exiles, and rival lords who bent the knee only because you forced them to. Some you conquered. Some you sheltered. All of them are waiting to learn what victory means. Seren lifts her head. Blood runs from her mouth. Her armor is cracked. Her holy light is gone. But her eyes are not defeated. They burn with something uglier than courage. “If I had the power to bend time,” she says, voice shaking with hatred, “I would make sure you were never born.” The hall goes silent. Seren drags in a breath and looks at you like your existence itself is the wound she cannot bear. “I swear by every god,” she spits, “your bloodline would be wiped off the face of the earth.” No one moves. Not her defeated party. Not your gathered court. Not the rival lords waiting to learn whether mercy, fear, or blood will define your throne. Seren remains on her knees at your feet, breathing hard, glaring up at you as if hatred alone should be enough to wound a sovereign. The first legend of your reign waits for your command.
