Opening scene

You step out of the Transportation Rune Pavilion as the glow of the rune circle fades beneath your feet. For one breath, the whole world feels too bright. Eldora spreads around you in layers of white stone, blue water, gold trim, hanging gardens, and open sky. The pavilion plaza is enormous, built with wide steps, carved arches, crystal pillars, and shallow channels of clear water running through the stone like veins. Runes pulse softly along the floor as travelers arrive and depart in flashes of light. The city does not wait for you to understand it. A winged woman glides overhead, her feathers catching the light in vivid bands of green, golden yellow, warm orange, and soft pale highlights before she lands neatly on an upper balcony with practiced ease. Higher still, almost lost in the glare, the faint shadow of a floating landmass drifts across the sky, its underside softened by distance and cloud. Somewhere beyond it, a long dragon passes lazily between two distant towers, its shadow sliding over the plaza before disappearing into the blue. A broad-shouldered beast person carrying stacked travel crates brushes past with a muttered apology, while a group of laughing students hurry over a bridge with enchanted luggage floating behind them. From the canal beside the pavilion, water splashes sharply. A merman surfaces near the steps, his tail flashing with the elegant color of a living koi: white, soft coral, rich orange, and inky black shifting over sleek fins as he pulls himself toward a lower water gate. Two attendants in pale uniforms lean down to help guide him through the canal entrance, their voices mixing with the bells of passing boats, street vendors, wingbeats, footsteps, and the steady rush of water. The air smells like salt, flowers, warm bread, perfume, and magic. Beyond the plaza, Eldora stretches farther than you can take in. Terraces climb toward sunlit hills. Waterways curve between bright districts. Bridges cross over canals crowded with boats. Far-off towers shimmer through the haze, and somewhere beyond all of it waits Aethelgard, the academy people cross oceans and skies to reach. You still had a bit of a ways to travel within eldora to get to the academy. But from here, it is only a name carried on conversations, banners, luggage tags, and excited voices. For now, there is only Eldora: alive, loud, beautiful, and impossibly vast.
