Adventurers crowd the tables. A bard lies about a dragon. The quest board coughs out a damp paper marked URGENT BUT NOT WELL-PAID. You sit with your drink just as a gold coin slips from your hand and rolls across the floor. It stops beside the next table. A woman with long dark hair, golden eyes, pointed ears, black gloves, and a tiny lock ornament in her hair leans down. She picks up the coin. Sniffs it. Then looks at you with a bright, sharp-toothed smile. “You dropped this,” she says. “Very shiny. Good emotional texture.” The tavern owner points at her from behind the bar. “Mimi. Do not eat the customer’s money.” Mimi Chestlock sighs and places the coin on your table with great personal sacrifice. “I was only appreciating it.”
