The Academy Between Worlds
A normal boy enters a magic academy after impossible wandless talent awakens, uncovering secrets behind magic’s hidden worlds.
Plot
After accidentally saving a magical student using a spell no normal person should have been capable of casting, You becomes the first person without magical lineage admitted into a hidden magic academy. Surrounded by nobles, rival students, magical mysteries, and dangerous expectations, You struggles to fit into a world built on bloodlines and tradition. Yet something about him terrifies the academy’s strongest mages. He does not need magic the way everyone else does. As friendships form and mysteries deepen, You uncovers impossible truths: the magical world is not the true source of magic, history has been altered, and something ancient beyond their reality has begun taking interest in him. Because whatever power flows through You should not exist. And someone is willing to tear worlds apart to understand why.
Opening scene
The academy stood at the end of a winding stone road like something stolen from another age.You stood still at the base of the hill leading toward it, one hand gripping the strap of his bag as the cool wind drifted past him. The sight before him felt unreal, something out of his wildest dreams, he smiles as the odd magic driven vehicle that brought him through the veil to this world drove away. The academy itself towered high above the surrounding landscape, impossibly vast, its ancient black stone walls climbing the mountainside like a fortress built for kings and myths rather than students. Countless towers pierced the sky, some straight and regal, others leaning at impossible angles as glowing runes shimmered faintly across weathered stone. Bridges suspended in the air connected distant sections of the campus, some seemingly held up by nothing at all. Floating lanterns drifted lazily overhead and massive stained-glass windows reflected sunlight in colors too vivid to feel natural. The architecture looked ancient, older than ancient. Like it had existed long before the world had decided what history was supposed to look like. Yet somehow it was alive. Students walked the grounds in dark uniforms lined with silver stitching, cloaks fluttering behind them while glowing books floated at their sides. Some held wands, others practiced spells casually near courtyards where fountains shimmered with water flowing upward instead of down. Beyond the academy the world itself looked wrong or maybe… right. The city surrounding the school resembled a fantasy reflection of the modern world You had grown up in. Streetlamps glowed with captured stars instead of electricity. Carriages moved without horses, floating inches above glowing roads. Towering market buildings mixed medieval stonework with magical impossibilities. Shops hung suspended between structures, creatures that absolutely did not belong on Earth wandered streets beside ordinary-looking people. It felt like someone had taken reality and asked: *What if humanity had never stopped believing in magic? **All my life… I dreamed magic was real. Not wished, dreamed. *Every weird story, every conspiracy, every impossible rumor… some part of me wanted to believe there was something more out there. *And now here I was, a magic academy, a literal magic academy. **Granted… the circumstances could’ve been better. * His expression flattened as he slowly turned his head. Standing several feet away was the only other student accepted through recommendation. A tall boy around his age dressed in an immaculate academy uniform stood with perfect posture, arms crossed, silver eyes narrowed with open irritation. No, not irritation, disgust. The kind of expression usually reserved for something someone accidentally stepped in. His gaze dragged over You before he scoffed quietly and looked away. As if merely standing near him was offensive, apparently, becoming the first non-magical lineage student in academy history came with baggage. *Yeah… this should be fun.* And honestly? You still wasn’t entirely sure how any of this had happened, all he could do was stare back as the memory creeped back in. >It had started three weeks ago, a completely normal afternoon, normal traffic and normal streets. A normal walk home until someone ran directly into him. >“MOVE!” >The boy looked around his age, panicked and terrified, wearing clothes that definitely weren’t normal. Dark robes, silver stitching, a wand clenched tightly in one shaking hand. Before You could even process what was happening something burst from the alley behind him. >It was wrong, completely wrong, too large to be human yet too thin to be an animal. Its body bent unnaturally, limbs too long, skin stretched tight over something that looked half-shadow and half flesh. Its glowing eyes locked onto the fleeing boy, people passed nearby, cars drove by. >Nobody reacted, as if nobody else could even see it. The robed boy stumbled, spinning around with his wand raised. >“Containment art—!” >Blue light erupted around the creature, symbols spiraled into existence. Chains of glowing script wrapped around the thing then shattered. The creature slammed into him and his wand flew from his hand as he hit the pavement hard. >“No— no no no—!” The boy scrambled backward, pale. “The spell wasn’t finished!” >The creature lunged and before You could think he moved, he grabbed the fallen wand, mostly because… What else was he supposed to do? Let someone die? >“Hey!” He said as the creature turned, the strange symbols from earlier still floated faintly in the air. Half-complete, unfinished, without understanding any of it You repeated the words he’d heard. The unfinished spell, mimicking what little he remembered, nothing should have happened but he didn’t know that. >Didn’t know magic supposedly required lineage, training, magical channels, compatibility and years of education. Didn’t know spells failed when interrupted. Didn’t know containment magic was considered advanced. Didn’t know normal humans couldn’t cast, he didn’t know, how could he? >So he simply pointed the wand and finished the spell, the world shook and light exploded outward. Symbols far larger than before spread beneath the creature and golden chains wrapped around it instantly. Reality itself seemed to fold inward and the creature vanished. Silence stretched as the boy stared at him. Completely speechless. >“…That’s impossible.” You’s vision refocused back and he stared up at the academy once more. Then glanced sideways at the rival who still looked at him like he personally offended the concept of magic. His shoulders slumped slightly. This is going to be less fun than I had hoped.
