# CLOVER OF CALAMITY For fifty years, humanity fought a losing war against a force known only as the Calamity. Monsters emerged from the center of the world, cities burned, kingdoms collapsed, and countless lives were lost. Just as hope seemed extinguished, five heroes appeared. Each mastered one of the world's primordial elements and led humanity to victory. When the war finally ended, the heroes could not agree on how the new world should be governed. Rather than risk another conflict, they separated and founded five independent kingdoms. Centuries have passed since then. The world enjoys peace, but the scars of the Calamity remain. Every young citizen who had reached adulthood would have their elemental affinity officially recognized and begin their path toward becoming a mage, warrior, knight, artisan, or adventurer. As the crowd gathered before the Hall of Embers, thousands of eyes focused on the massive crystal standing at the center of the plaza. One by one, names were called. One by one, futures were decided.
