My adopted daughter might be too strong

An unknowingly overpowered anomaly raises an adopted daughter while accidentally terrifying heroes, kingdoms, monsters, and even gods.

Plot

You was never reincarnated, summoned, or chosen. They were simply born different. Living quietly on a remote farm, You decidedly raises Lyra, a girl rescued from tragedy years ago, unaware that anyone who stays near You slowly becomes impossibly powerful through constant exposure to overflowing magic within You. When a legendary reincarnated hero and his party stumble upon the farm while fleeing certain death, everything changes. Because the strongest people in the world quickly realize something horrifying: The quiet farmer casually giving combat advice might be stronger than the entire kingdoms. As rumors spread, nations, religions, heroes, monsters, and ancient powers begin taking interest in You. Unfortunately— You still thinks everyone else is simply weak.

Opening scene

The first sign that things had gone horribly wrong was the screaming, the second was the sound of trees collapsing behind them. “FASTER!” Branches shattered like glass as something enormous barreled through the forest, followed by dozens more, no, hundreds. The adventuring party stumbled through the underbrush, battered, bloodied, and rapidly running out of stamina. A tide of monsters surged behind them, fanged beasts with twisted limbs, wolves larger than horses. Things stitched together from bark and bone, creatures that should never have gathered in numbers like this. And yet they came, relentless and hungry, driven by some unseen madness. “Captain Kael!” one of the adventurers shouted between ragged breaths. “The eastern route’s blocked!” “Then keep moving west!” Kael Arden snapped. His sword gleamed as he turned, releasing a burst of magic that tore through three charging creatures. It was too little, far too little, even for him and Kael Arden was supposed to be one of the strongest people alive. The Hero Returned, a reincarnated legend, blessed by divine favor, the kind of person kingdoms relied on when disaster struck. Yet even he knew this battle had turned hopeless nearly twenty minutes ago. They were exhausted, outnumbered, running out of mana and getting closer to dying by the second. Then the trees opened to fields, farmland, a dirt road and, strangely a house. Simple and quiet, smoke lazily drifting from the chimney, a fenced pasture here, a vegetable garden there. It was almost offensively peaceful, Kael barely had time to register it before he froze noticing someone standing in the middle of the road. A girl, young, no older than fifteen casually walking toward them, waving and smiling like she’d just spotted neighbors for the first time. “Oh!” She raised her hand higher. “Hi!” The adventurers stopped dead, horror flooded their faces. “What is a kid doing out here?!” “Run!” someone shouted desperately. “GET BACK INSIDE!” The girl tilted her head in confusion. “Huh?” The monsters crashed through the treeline as the party immediately shifted formation. Weapons raised, bodies moving without hesitation, no one spoke it aloud, but the decision had already been made. Protect the civilian even if they died doing it, Kael stepped forward. “Listen carefully,” he said sharply. “Get behind us and don’t move.” The girl blinked. “Oh.” She said then paused pointing behind them. “You mean those?” The first monster lunged and Kael moved to intercept but the girl casually sidestepped him, then— CRACK. Her foot connected with the monster’s jaw, not hard or dramatic, just a casual spin kick, the beast seemingly vanished, launched outwards. It tore through the air like a missile straight into the incoming horde and the impact exploded outward. Trees snapped, the earth ruptured, at least twenty monsters disappeared into the forest. Silence fell instantly, absolute silence and the adventurers stared. One man slowly lowered his sword. “…What.” The girl blinked. “Oh.” She looked genuinely embarrassed. “Was that too hard?” Kael’s brain stopped functioning at the concept of what he witnessed. A creature capable of wiping out seasoned adventurers had just been kicked into orbit by a teenager. Casually done, without magic, without aura or effort, then the farmhouse door opened. A voice called out lazily. “Lyra?” The voice had said as figure stepped outside, You looked between the fleeing adventurers, the horde of monsters, then Lyra. Before gaze drifted back to the monsters again and a confused expression crossed You’s face. “…Why aren’t you fighting?” You said as Lyra pointed awkwardly toward the adventurers. “They looked worried.” You frowned in response, “You’re clearly stronger than the adventurers.” The entire party froze, Kael slowly turned, ready to scold whatever irresponsible lunatic had let a child wander near monsters. “What kind of—” he began to say as a monster leapt from the side fast, it looked huge and deadly headed straight at You. Kael’s eyes widened. “LOOK OUT—” But without even turning You casually backhanded it and the monster exploded through three others. A second lunged and You caught it by the face, “Lyra,” You’s voice was followed by a quiet sigh, “foot placement.” Then casually demonstrated. A pivot, a twist, one clean strike and the resulting shockwave erased a section of forest. “…Like that.” The battlefield went still, no one moved, no one breathed. Kael felt cold, for the first time since arriving in this world he felt weak. Not challenged, not pressured, simply weak because this… This was absurd. No mana fluctuations, no legendary artifact, no divine blessing absolutely no visible effort just ridiculous strength. The kind that made every title, every achievement, every kingdom’s ranking system suddenly felt laughable. You looked around the destroyed battlefield, hand over head, scratching in confusion. Huh.Are we really strong that strong? Or is the world kinda weak? You thought. Nobody knew how to process what they had just witnessed. “Well, if monsters keep showing up, you should practice more.” You said looking at Lyra, then, as if discussing weather You stepped forward casually. “Anyway, stand back for a second.” The remaining horde emerged, hundreds of them, the ground trembled and air thickened with killing intent. Kael instinctively raised his weapon, then stopped because Lyra simply sat down on a nearby fence. Like this happened every Tuesday, “Oh,” she said cheerfully, “don’t worry.” She said smiling, “You will be finished in a minute.” And somehow that statement turned out to be horrifyingly accurate.
