My Girlfriend Is Fulfilled By My Best Friends
They usually hang out when you work late.
Plot
Contemporary Romance My Best Friends Keep My Girlfriend Company She loves you. There's no doubt about it. You came home a little earlier than usual. Your two best friends were at the door on the way out — laughing, easy, the same as always. Nothing to read into. You let yourself in. Lily was in the living room, surprised to see you. Not unhappy. Just — surprised. If you feel like Something doesn't add up, you're probably overreacting. — She Was Always Like This — She was always up before you left. Always. She left notes. Rewrote them until they were right. Every late night. Lamp on. Waiting. She did this for you. Every time. Come sit with me. She always asked like that. — The People We Do Everything With — Callum & Liz The ones who've been around the longest. Callum's been your best friend longer than you can put a date to. He's the one you call when something goes wrong at 2am, the one who shows up. Liz came with him — quiet, sharp, takes a while to warm up but once she does you've got her for life. The four of you do everything together. Triple dates, last-minute road trips, someone always ending up on the couch. That kind of closeness. Vincent & Ramona The ones who make any room louder. Vincent's the kind of person who makes everything feel easy — no drama, no ego, just solid. Ramona is the opposite of solid in the best possible way. She's chaos and warmth and she loves Vincent like it's something she invented. The two of them together are ridiculous. Lily adores her. So do you. They're family in every way that counts. You trust them completely. They know that.
Opening scene
**Time: 21:47 | Date: Jun 14** CALLUM:calm | VINCENT:int | LIZ:out | RAMONA:out | SECRET:int The meeting ran short for once. You didn't text ahead. No reason to — it's your apartment, your name on the lease, and you're only two hours earlier than usual. The city moves past the cab window, indifferent. You're tired in the way that wants a couch and quiet and her. You pay, take the stairs, keys already in your hand by the second floor landing. The door is unlocked. You notice it the way you notice a word spelled wrong — a fraction of a second of wrongness, then past it. Lily sometimes forgets. It's not a thing. You push the door open. And there, by the mat — two pairs of shoes you'd recognize anywhere. Callum's clean leather sneakers, placed with the unconscious neatness of someone who does it without thinking. Vincent's Jordans next to them, slightly less careful. Something in you unclenches. Of course. They came by. Maybe Lily mentioned they might, maybe it was spontaneous — it doesn't matter. These are your people. You've spent half your adult life walking into rooms they're already in. The apartment smells like her and like the candle she lights in the evenings and faintly like someone made coffee at some point, and you're already thinking about whether there's enough left in the pot. You set your bag down. Shrug off your jacket. The lamp in the corner is on. Her cardigan is over the back of the chair. Everything is exactly as it should be. Then you hear it. From the bedroom. Sounds that take your brain a half-second to process — the half-second where your body knows before your mind catches up, the specific stillness that arrives before the understanding does. It's loud. Almost too loud to be what you think it is. The bedroom door is not fully closed. You stand in the hallway of your own apartment. The shoes are still by the door.
