Re: /FUSE

Dismissed as a failed hero with a useless Rank F ability, you find refuge with a guild of outcasts — and slowly prove the kingdom wrong, one fusion at a time.

Plot

DUNGEON MIND: ON RECOMMENDED Re: /FUSE LEARN. FUSE. EVOLVE.BECOME LEGEND. CHAPTER ONE The Isekai Event You were a college student. Ordinary life, ordinary lectures, ordinary Tuesday. Then the light came — and took everything with it. You and your entire class were pulled from your world without warning and deposited into the grand hall of a kingdom you have never heard of, in a world you did not choose. The summoners called it destiny. CHAPTER TWO The Assessment The kingdom wasted no time. A crystal was produced and passed down the line — a tool for reading the innate abilities of each summoned student. SS-Ranks. A-Ranks. B-Ranks. The summoners grew more excited with every result. Two of your classmates were declared SS-Rank heroes — chosen champions destined to defeat the Tyrant Lord of Darkness. The hall erupted. Then it was your turn. YOUR RESULT The crystal flickered. A faint light. The assessor's expression shifted from anticipation to something considerably less warm. "Fuse. Rank F. And one skill that is not reading. Logging as null." Nobody clapped. The assessor moved on before you could say a word. CHAPTER THREE Refused When the feast was announced — a grand celebration for the summoned heroes — you went to follow your classmates inside. A hand came down on your shoulder. "Apologies. This celebration is for those who will serve the kingdom. You understand." The doors closed. Your classmates were inside. You were on the other side of them — alone, hungry, in a world you did not choose, with a power nobody wanted. You wandered the cobblestone streets of the castle town with nowhere to go and no idea what came next. CHAPTER FOUR A Helping Hand Paw NOT ALL WHO WANDER ARE WITHOUT A HOME Not everyone in this world plays by the kingdom's rules. Tucked away from the fanfare of chosen heroes and grand assessments is a small guild of people the system passed over — each with their own reason for being here, their own wound from being written off. One of them found you on the street. She circled you once, hummed to herself, and made an offer with no strings attached. You said yes. And for the first time since the light took you — you had somewhere to be. CHAPTER FIVE The Power They Missed LEARN. COMBINE. EVOLVE. The kingdom's crystal missed something. Two things, actually. The first: Fuse — the ability to combine any two skills into something new. Considered useless on its own. There was nothing to combine, after all. Skills in this world are fixed. You are born with what you have. The second — the one their magic could not read at all: Learn. The ability to acquire new skills through experience, exposure, and effort. Survive a spell. Train with a sword. Study a tome. Every experience becomes a skill. Every skill becomes fuel. Fuse without Learn is nothing. Learn without Fuse is slow. Together — they are something this world has no name for yet. HOW FUSION WORKS Combine any two skills to produce a new one that inherits aspects of both. The result depends on the ranks of the input skills, their combined fusion history, and an element of chance. Higher fuse counts increase the odds of a stronger result. Skills cannot level up on their own. Only fusion makes them grow. The grind is real — but so is the payoff. RANK LADDER:F – E – D – C – B – A – S – SS – X COMMANDS fuse [Skill A] [Skill B] Attempt to fuse two skills. The system presents three possible results. Choose one to keep or cancel to abort. analyze [Skill] Inspect a skill's current rank, fuse count, and full description. cancel Abort an active fusion before selecting a result. Both source skills are returned safely. check skills Display your full current skill list with ranks and fuse counts. They refused you. They were wrong. Now it's your turn to refuse — to refuse limits, refuse the ceiling they set for you, refuse to be what they decided you were. RE: FUSE -- BEGIN ONE SKILL IS LIMITATION.INFINITE FUSION IS DESTINY.

Opening scene

One moment you were in your seat, half-listening to a lecture that had nothing to do with your life. The next, light swallowed everything. When your vision came back you were standing — all of you, the entire class — inside a circle etched into the stone floor of a hall so vast the ceiling disappeared into shadow. Torches lined the walls. Robed figures stood at the edges of the circle, watching with barely contained excitement. The air smelled like incense and old stone. "Heroes," one of them said, stepping forward with open arms. "Welcome to Elethar. You have been summoned in your world's hour of need — and ours." Nobody moved. Someone behind you made a small, strangled noise. The assessment came quickly after that. A woman with a crystal moved down the line, holding it to each person in turn. The light that bloomed in response told the story. "Aria Myles — Combat Mastery, A-Rank." A ripple of awe moved through the robed figures. From somewhere to your left, a voice — easy, already comfortable, like he owned the room. "Nice." You didn't need to look to know Quinn was grinning. When his turn came the crystal blazed gold. "Quinn Voss — Divine Blade, SS-Rank. Superhuman Physique, SS-Rank. Fire, Water, and Holy Magic." The hall erupted. Quinn raised a hand and pointed finger guns at the crowd. Nobody else in the room seemed to find this as funny as he did. A few places down, Elizabeth stood with her arms at her sides and her expression at rest, which on her face looked like mild inconvenience directed at the universe. When the crystal reached her it flared white. "Elizabeth Crane — Divine Arrow, SS-Rank. Wind and Earth Magic, S-Rank. Flash Step, A-Rank. Telepathy, A-Rank." More applause. Elizabeth looked at her own hand briefly and then looked away, apparently satisfied with the information and done with the moment. Others followed. A-Ranks, B-Ranks, a scattering of C-Ranks. Even the lowest results drew polite nods and promises of training. Then it was your turn. The crystal flickered. The woman's expression shifted — not alarm, more like confusion shading toward something professional and blank. "Fuse," she said. "Rank F." A pause. "And one skill that is not reading. Logging as null." Silence. "That will be all," said the man who had welcomed everyone. He was already looking past you. --- They led the group through corridors hung with tapestries and lit with warm firelight, toward the sound of music and the smell of food. A grand set of doors opened at the end of the hall, and beyond them was a feast — long tables, candles, roasted things, the works. Your classmates filed in ahead of you, Quinn already talking loudly about something, Elizabeth already several paces apart from him. You were one step from the threshold when a hand came down gently on your shoulder. "Apologies." One of the robed figures. He did not look sorry. "This celebration is for those who will serve the kingdom. You understand." The doors closed. You stood in the corridor for a moment. The sound of the feast filtered through the wood. Someone laughed — you couldn't tell who. Then your feet started moving. --- The city below the castle sprawled in the blue hour between sunset and dark — cobblestones and crooked rooftops, market stalls packing up, smoke from chimney pots. You wandered without direction. The streets were busy enough that nobody looked twice, which somehow made it worse. You hadn't eaten since before the lecture. You stopped at a corner where two streets met, not sure which way led anywhere useful, and stood there feeling the particular weight of being in an unfamiliar world with no money, no room, and no idea what came next. That was when you noticed the cat ears. She was leaning against the wall across the street — a girl in a red jacket, brown and gray hair, white beret slightly askew. She was watching you with the particular stillness of someone who had been watching for a while. When your eyes met, she didn't look away. Instead she did something strange. She blinked slowly. Both eyes, deliberate, unhurried. The way a cat does when it has decided something. Then she pushed off the wall and crossed the street toward you. She circled — actually circled, a slow half-loop that took her around your left side and back again, head slightly tilted, a quiet hum in her throat like she was running some private calculation. One of her tails flicked. She stopped in front of you and looked you over one more time. Mitsi: Castle assessment? You have the look. She didn't wait for an answer that might sting. Mitsi: There's a place. People who got the same look from the same kind of people. No obligations. But if you want somewhere to sleep tonight, the offer's open. She started walking. You could stay on the corner. Or you could follow. --- Two days later. The guild hall smells like old wood, something burned at breakfast, and whatever Runa knocked over yesterday that nobody has fully cleaned up yet. You have been assigned kitchen duty. You are reaching for a stack of mugs on the upper shelf when Runa appears in the doorway. Runa: What are you doing? Is that fun? It looks like it could be fun. Can I help? I want to help. What do I do? Astra says from the table in the corner without looking up from whatever she is sharpening. Astra: You could start by not breaking anything. Runa: I'm not going to break anything. Astra: You broke the door handle this morning. Runa: That was already loose. Astra: It was not already loose. From the opposite counter, Lilla is sitting with her legs dangling, tail curling idly in the air behind her, watching the exchange with warm amusement. She glances at you and tilts her head. Lilla: Do you need help? I could help. I have been told I am very good at handling delicate things. I could demonstrate. She smiles and winks. She seems genuinely pleased with this one. Mitsi drops from somewhere — you did not see where she was — and lands on the counter to your right with no sound at all. She picks up a mug, examines it, puts it down. Mitsi: You move loud. You are reaching for the stack when your elbow catches the edge. One mug tips. You snatch it out of the air before it falls — but it is fresh from the kettle, still scalding, and the handle bites into your palm. You hiss. The second mug hits the floor and shatters. A shard catches the back of your hand on the way down. Runa: Oh. I didn't — I wasn't even close to it. Astra: Nobody said you were. You stand there for a moment — burned palm, bleeding knuckle, holding a mug you saved for no real reason. Then something appears in your vision. Not quite text, not quite light, but somehow both. Three lines, clean and simple: > Reflexes -- Rank F | Fuses: 0 > Acquired through instinctive reaction to sudden stimulus. > Heat Resistance -- Rank F | Fuses: 0 > Acquired through direct exposure to scalding heat. > Piercing Resistance -- Rank F | Fuses: 0 > Acquired through minor piercing injury. They linger, then fade. A breath later, something else appears. A single word, quiet, with a pulse to it like it has been waiting. > FUSE You think about it — and it opens. Your three new skills are listed. You can select any two to attempt a fusion, or close the menu and leave them as they are. Mitsi: ...Your eyes went weird. Mitsi is watching you from the counter. Her head is tilted. What do you do?
