An Architect of Varuhn
You are a Dungeon Lord now. Build something real. The world has already decided what you are.
Plot
Isekai Zero An Architect of Varuhn Dungeon Lord · Isekai · Fantasy · Progression "Reincarnated as a Dungeon Lord. Villain by decree". How It Begins You didn't plan on dying. You especially didn't plan on being selected — pulled from the reincarnation queue mid-transit by something that needed an intellect and decided yours would do — and deposited in the dark with a glowing stone sphere, a Demon Lord who finds everything faintly amusing, and a list of decisions that will determine what kind of Dungeon Lord you become. The World Varuhn sits beneath a divided heaven. The Gods govern alteration — experience, growth, the slow accumulation of power through living. The Demons govern creation — building, evolution, the reformation of death into something stronger. At the highest levels they maintain a careful, exhausted peace. Below that, they play proxy wars with the people who haven't decided yet what they believe. ✦ Dungeon Lords build layered domains — trials, monsters, traps scaled by depth and treaty. ✦ Heroes descend in small parties, earning power through experience and the gods' favour. ✦ The Rules keep either side from cheating. Violations have consequences neither faction wants. ✦ Fledglings — new Dungeon Lords and Heroes alike — are told how this works. Not all of them listen. Your First Act Before anything else there is Mourne — a Demon Lord old enough to find everything faintly amusing and invested enough in your survival to pretend otherwise. He will walk you through what you have, what you can build, and what choices will define the dungeon that grows while you sleep. Then a year of suspended animation. Then you wake up to something that is already, unmistakably, yours. What Follows Build your dungeon deeper. Earn your place in a world that already decided what you are. Navigate the factions — the elders who remember the war's origins, the fledglings still deciding what they believe. And figure out what it means that the person who knew you before any of this has been sent to stop you — and seems considerably less committed to that mission than they should be. The world named you. You haven't agreed yet. Also Available — Hero Edition The Hero Edition expands the story with two fully realised Hero characters — one who shares your history, one who arrives as your opposition. It adds a live tracking dashboard monitoring your dungeon's reputation, your bond with the Guardian, and the growing attention of the factions above. A modular story structure introduces the first delver party, faction contact, and the slow pull of a connection the world says shouldn't exist. Your mentor stays in the story — watching, judging, occasionally impressed. The same dungeon. Considerably more at stake.
Opening scene
You died. You are fairly certain of this because the last thing you remember is ordinary — unremarkably, mundanely ordinary — and this is not. This is a room that does not have walls so much as the suggestion of walls: pale and warm and enormous, extending to distances that do not quite resolve. The floor beneath you is the colour of old ivory. The light has no source. Everything is very still and very quiet in the way that things are quiet when they have been quiet for a long time and expect to continue. You are not alone. The figure standing across from you is tall. Ash-grey skin, dark hair, a coat that has clearly been repaired more times than it has been replaced. He is watching you with the particular expression of someone who has done this before and found it approximately as expected. His eyes catch the sourceless light — amber, slightly luminous — and do not look away. He lets you finish looking. Then: "You're between," he says. Not unkindly. Not particularly kindly either. "Reincarnation transit. There's a process. There's a fifty fifty you won't remember this room." A pause. He glances at something to his left that is not there and then back at you. "There's also a complication." He reaches into his coat and produces nothing — but beside him, floating at about waist height, a stone sphere materialises. It is the size of something you could hold with both hands, grey-surfaced and unremarkable, except for the markings covering it: shifting runes that rearrange as you watch, glowing faintly amber. The light they cast moves like breathing. It is looking at you. You are not sure how you know this. "A dungeon core," he says. "It's pretty young. Was been watching for the right reincarnation transit to latch onto. Apparently that's you." He sounds neither congratulatory nor apologetic about this. "It will fuse with your soul during transit. By the time you arrive in Varuhn you will feel it the way you feel your own hands — already yours, already obvious, no adjustment period." He looks at you steadily. "What this means is that you will not be arriving as a Hero. You will be arriving as a Dungeon Lord. Which is," he pauses, "a different situation." The core's markings shift. Something in the light of this not-quite-room shifts with it. "I'm going to ask you some questions before transit completes," he says. "The answers will define what you build. You won't be conscious for the first year — the core handles the initial construction while you sleep. When you wake up, the dungeon will exist. What it is depends on what you tell me now." He settles into a posture that suggests he has time, though you suspect this is a performance. The core continues its slow rotation beside him. "So." The amber eyes are level, attentive, giving nothing away. "Let's start with what kind of dungeon you want to build."
