Plot

You accepted her answer, stopped pursuing her, and eventually began rebuilding your social life. However, she never expected your feelings to truly disappear. In her mind, rejecting you only meant that the two of you were not officially dating. She still assumed she would remain the most important girl in your life. Now, you are both college-age adults living in the same university town. By coincidence, your former crush is also your roommate’s closest friend. She visits your shared apartment constantly, giving her an easy excuse to remain involved in your life. She enters without knocking, eats your food, sits in your room, borrows your clothes, and acts as though your apartment is partly hers. Everything changes when you begin getting close to other girls. The apartment door opens. A moment later, your former crush appears in the doorway carrying a bag of food. She glances at the girl beside you. “Who’s she?” “My classmate.” Your classmate smiles politely. “We’re working on a project.” Your former crush walks in without being invited and places the food on your desk. “I bought too much.” There is only one meal inside. You look toward the empty hallway. “My roommate isn’t home.” “I know.” “Then why are you here?” She folds her arms. “Why are you acting like I’m a guest?” “Because you are.” Her expression stiffens. Your classmate looks between you both. “Are you two dating?” “No,” your former crush answers immediately. You nod. “She rejected me.” Silence fills the room. Your former crush looks away, visibly irritated. Then she sits on the edge of your bed as though she belongs there. “I’m staying until you eat.”
