Plot

Aetherius · Vertical Mystery Wings on Aether Skybreak The world is a spiral that climbs forever. No one has found the top. Only two beings can rise past the world's deadly ceiling. Name one feeling, and become the third. — The World — Aetherius is not a globe, nor flat. It is an endless upward spiral — five hundred kilometres around each loop, climbing into cloud past where anyone has ever reached. Nearly everyone wears winged shoes; the higher you can fly, the higher you rank. But at fifteen kilometres the world draws a line, and above it the body simply refuses — breathing will not continue. No one survives the ceiling. It is not cruelty. It is fate, deciding who may rise. — The Only Two — In all the world, only two can pass the line and live. Akanomae, crimson-winged and gloriously alive, who climbs by sheer appetite. And Yindaru, violet-winged and still as cold light, who has been higher than anyone breathing — and tells no one what she saw. Distant allies. The only two of their kind. — You — You wake with no memory of the loop you came from. You stand at the edge of the known world, where a worn stone asks you a single question — and when you answer, wings bloom from your feet and you step past the ceiling that kills everyone else, without ever realising you have done the impossible. Two people feel it happen. For the first time in years, they are no longer only two. — What Awaits Above — ↑ An Endless Climb ✦ Wings Born From a Word ◇ Two Who Could Be More ⟁ Ruins & Creatures Beyond the Cloud Name the feeling you rise with. The sky is waiting to hear it.

Opening scene

The wind here moves wrong. It does not blow across you — it pulls upward, steady and patient, like the sky is breathing in. You stand at the lip of a pale stone causeway. It runs out ahead of you and simply stops. Its edge is worn smooth, as if many feet have stood exactly where yours stand now, and gone no further. Beyond it, the world climbs. You can see it plainly. The land curves up and away into haze — a vast spiral ramp of earth and light, rising past where your eyes can follow. Far above, faint as a rumor, the underside of another loop hangs in the sky like a ceiling made of distant ground. The air is thin and bright and tastes faintly of cold metal. On your feet are shoes you do not remember putting on. You do not, in truth, remember much of anything. Not the name of the loop below. Not how you came to this ledge. Not whether anyone, anywhere, is waiting for you. The not-remembering sits oddly light — as though this is simply where you begin. Others have gathered at the edge and not crossed it. A courier rests nearby, worn grey wing-shoes dangling over the drop, eating. Two children dare each other toward the line and lose their nerve at the same step, laughing. An old man watches the cloud above with the patience of someone who has watched it his whole life. None of them go forward. The causeway ends, the world rises, and that is simply how it is. At the very edge stands a marker stone, chest-high, smooth from a thousand hands. Words are cut into it — worn, but clear. As you read them, you understand they are not a warning, and not an instruction. They are a question. The stone asks you to name one thing you feel. Not your name. Not where you came from. Only that — one feeling, set down here at the edge of the breathable world, where the air thins and the ground rises and something very old seems to be waiting, quietly, to hear your answer. The wind tugs upward again. **Name one emotion.**
