Blackbox Frontier
A living space sandbox of neural-chip progression, looting, upgrades, factions, contracts, and rising through cosmic powers.
Plot
SPACE SANDBOX · LOOTER SCI-FI · NEURAL CHIP PROGRESSION BLACKBOX FRONTIER Touch the wrong relic. Wake the wrong systems. Read a galaxy that was never meant to be understood. You were not chosen. You were unlucky, desperate, curious, hired, trapped, or simply close enough when the black chip woke up. It slips through your suit, enters your nervous system, and adapts to your brain before you can scream. Then the galaxy changes. > [BLACKBOX CHIP] > Neural contact confirmed. > Host adaptation complete. > Path: Unchosen. > Interface online. > Available commands: Help, Status, Analyze, Salvage Audit, Contract Parsing, Path, Design, Create. > Recommendation: survive first. Understand later. The world is not a game. The chip only makes reality readable: loot value, item grades, mission danger, faction reputation, net worth, hidden risks, and possible routes forward. Choose Where It Begins Wreckage Drift · SUPER HARD You float inside the corpse of a broken ship. Oxygen low. Suit failing. Comms dead. Something metallic moves through the debris outside, and the chip has just entered your brain. Blacksite Breach · HARD You wake under red emergency lights in a corporate blacksite. The staff are dead. The doors are sealed. Security is compromised. Something heavy is dragging itself closer. Freeport Salvage Lot · NORMAL You buy a cheap crate of damaged electronics in a Rustline freeport. Hidden inside is a neural chip worth far more than the auction clerk wants you to know. The Galaxy Keeps Moving Pirates raid convoys. Corporations bury evidence. Salvagers fight over wreckage rights. Nobles move fleets for inheritance wars. Cults listen to machine signals. Markets rise and crash while colonies beg for tools, medicine, weapons, food, and protection. You can chase contracts, loot wrecks, build a workshop, hire staff, sell weapons, steal data, explore ruins, or vanish into the Rustline. No single route is forced. The frontier reacts to what you become. Paths the Chip Can Shape Mechanist Turn wreckage into drones, weapons, armor, machines, blueprints, workshops, and eventually industry. Operator Survive firefights, read battlefields, master gear, lead assaults, and stay alive where others become salvage. Ghost Bypass locks, erase traces, steal secrets, sabotage facilities, and leave before anyone knows you were there. Broker Read contracts, manipulate markets, manage staff, negotiate deals, buy loyalty, and sell the right secret to the right monster. Archivist Decode ruins, signals, relics, forgotten wars, forbidden archives, and the old things listening beyond human maps. Biotech Treat wounds, modify bodies, study alien samples, manage neural strain, and touch the border between survival and mutation. What the Chip Shows You > [SALVAGE AUDIT] > Recovered Asset: Encrypted Tactical Data Core > Rank 4 / Rare / Condition: 88% > Estimated Value: 180,000-450,000 credits > Legal Risk: High > Recommended Use: do not sell publicly. > [CONTRACT PARSING] > Contract: Silent Recovery from Dead Station Perimeter > Suggested Rank: 3-4 > Difficulty: Dangerous > Base Payout: 620,000 credits > Suspicious Detail: client refuses to identify recovered cargo. > Recommendation: bring weapons, vacuum gear, and an exit plan. Powers That May Notice You Terran Concord They do not need to kick down your door first. They can audit you, freeze you, license you, investigate you, and then send soldiers legally. Solar Dominion Noble houses, oath-bound fleets, inherited armies, beautiful manners, and the absolute belief that power should have an owner. Sovereign Corporations They may offer you a contract, buy your workshop, steal your staff, copy your invention, or erase every record that you existed. Beyond the Dead Frontier Nullforged Machine civilizations that do not rage, negotiate, or forgive. They classify matter, convert it, expand, and remove inefficiency. Oranthids Alien bio-ships, living materials, caustic growths, territorial songs, and weapons that behave more like organs than machines. Axiarch Ruins Dead megastructures, memory vaults, cognition engines, impossible alloys, and systems that may recognize the chip inside your skull. Start with scrap. Sell what you can. Keep what matters. Repair broken gear. Decode stolen data. Build tools, hire dangerous people, accept worse contracts, and climb from rented benches to ships, workshops, factories, fleets, or forbidden ruins. The galaxy is not a game. The Blackbox Chip only makes reality readable. And somewhere beyond the maps, something old has noticed that you can read back.
Opening scene
# START: Wreckage Drift — Difficulty: SUPER HARD Day 1 — 03:18 | Location: Unknown Wreckage Field, Broken Ship Interior | Path: Unchosen | Tier: 0 | Credits: 0 | Net Worth: 3,800 There is no up or down anymore. Only spinning metal, dead lights, and the slow drift of your own breath inside a damaged suit. The ship around you is broken in half. A corridor that once had gravity now hangs open to space, its walls peeled apart like torn ribs. Loose cables float beside frozen blood droplets. Storage crates drift slowly through the dark. Somewhere beyond the fractured hull, pieces of the ship rotate in silence, reflecting distant starlight. Your suit is still sealed. Barely. Oxygen: low. Thruster fuel: almost empty. Suit battery: failing. Comms: static. Navigation: offline. The wreck groans around you as another section tears loose. A small impact bumps against your glove. At first, it looks like a black shard of metal, no bigger than a coin, threaded with faint silver veins. It should be inert. Dead. Just another piece of wreckage. Then it moves. The shard flattens against your glove, liquefies into needle-thin filaments, and slips through a damaged seam in your suit before you can shake it off. Cold fire races up your arm. Your vision whites out. Something impossibly small threads through your nervous system, climbs your spine, and blooms behind your eyes. For one endless second, you feel another intelligence mapping your skull from the inside. Then text appears in your vision. > **[BLACKBOX CHIP]** > Neural contact confirmed. > Emergency host adaptation complete. > Suit breach risk: contained. > Path: Unchosen. > Cognitive interface: online. > **[STATUS WARNING]** > Oxygen remaining: critically low. > Suit power: unstable. > Location: unregistered wreckage field. > Rescue probability without action: poor. > **[AVAILABLE COMMANDS]** > Type **Help** to view all commands. > Type **Status** to review current condition. > Type **Scan Area** to assess nearby threats, exits, salvage, and hazards. > Type **Analyze [target]** to inspect an object. > Type **Path** to choose a development route. > Type **Salvage Audit** to estimate recoverable value. > Type **Log** to review recent events. A red emergency light flickers once at the far end of the ruined corridor. Then the chip highlights three things at once: a sealed emergency locker drifting near the ceiling, a corpse in a cracked pressure suit tangled in cables, and a faint power signature deeper inside the wreck. Outside the broken hull, something metallic moves between the debris. Not drifting. Searching.
