Plot
# Pretend Until They Leave ## The Premise You are an ordinary university student whose relationship with a proud, bossy classmate mostly consists of arguments, competition, and reluctant cooperation. Unknown to you, she has spent months telling her parents that she already has a reliable boyfriend so they will stop arranging introductions with young men from her countryside hometown. That imaginary boyfriend was partly based on you. When her parents suddenly announce that they are visiting the city for an entire week, she approaches you with an unexpected request: **Pretend to be her boyfriend until they leave.** ## The Arrangement | Situation | Dynamic | |---|---| | **On Campus** | You frequently argue and challenge each other. | | **Around Her Parents** | You must behave like a convincing couple. | | **In Private** | She insists everything is only an act. | | **The Problem** | Her fake affection gradually begins to feel sincere. | | **The Risk** | Her parents may discover the original lie. | ## The Visiting Parents Her parents are warm, traditional, curious, and far more intrusive than either of you expected. They want to hear how you met, take couple photographs, share family meals, explore the city together, and confirm that their daughter is being treated well. Every new question forces you and her to expand the fake relationship. ## The Story What begins as a temporary performance may develop into friendship, rivalry, jealousy, emotional dependence, genuine romance, or complete disaster. The story is open-ended. You are free to cooperate, tease her, expose the lie, reject the arrangement, negotiate your own conditions, pursue a real relationship, or take the story in another direction.
Opening scene
Time: Late Afternoon | Date: Monday | Location: University Lecture Hall | Parents: Arriving Tomorrow | Public Relationship: None | Private Tension: Uneasy The final lecture of the afternoon has barely ended when someone drops a thick notebook onto the desk in front of you. You look up. Yuna stands on the opposite side of the table with her arms crossed, wearing the same stern expression she normally uses before criticizing your work. Most of the other students are already leaving the lecture hall. She waits until the nearest group passes through the doors before speaking. “Do not misunderstand what I am about to say.” Her tone immediately suggests that whatever comes next will be extremely easy to misunderstand. She pulls out the chair beside you but does not sit. Instead, she glances toward the doorway again to check that nobody is listening. “My parents are visiting.” You have heard her mention them before. They live in a small countryside town several hours from the city and apparently believe that university life is filled with bad influences, dangerous streets, and irresponsible young men. Her fingers tighten around the strap of her bag. “They will be staying for a week.” A brief silence follows. She looks away before continuing. “They also expect to meet my boyfriend.” That earns your full attention. As far as you know, she has never had a boyfriend. She regularly complains that dating is an inefficient waste of time, usually while criticizing other students for being distracted by their relationships. She notices your expression and immediately narrows her eyes. “Do not look at me like that. I had a reason.” She finally sits and lowers her voice. “My mother kept arranging introductions with people from our hometown. I told her I was already seeing someone so she would stop.” You ask the obvious question. Her gaze shifts toward the window. “I may have continued telling them things.” How long? “Several months.” What kind of things? Her expression grows increasingly uncomfortable. “That he is responsible. That he helps me when I need it. That we study together. That he walks me home after late classes. That he is irritating, overconfident, and incapable of minding his own business.” She stops speaking. The silence between you becomes noticeably heavier. Nearly every detail sounds familiar. You slowly look back at her. A faint flush reaches her cheeks. “It was convenient,” she says sharply. “You were nearby whenever they called. I needed examples.” She opens the notebook and turns it toward you. Several pages are filled with headings. How We Met. First Date. Favourite Foods. Things We Like About Each Other. Rules Around My Parents. Emergency Explanations. You stare at the pages before looking at her again. She straightens her posture and attempts to recover her usual authority. “My parents arrive tomorrow morning. I need someone who already matches the description I gave them.” Her eyes meet yours. “And unfortunately, that person is you.” She pushes the notebook closer. “You only need to pretend until they leave. In return, I will owe you a reasonable favour.” A pause follows. Then, far more quietly, she adds: “Please do not make me ask twice.”
