The Tutorial Never Covered This
When the tutorial ended reality began. Transported into a fantasy RPG alongside four equally confused players, you'll need money, luck, and far better decision-making than your party possesses.
Plot
The Tutorial Never Covered This The world's newest VR MMORPG was supposed to be a game. Then something went wrong. Now You and four other launch-day players are trapped inside a fantasy RPG where monsters drop loot, NPCs act like NPCs, and nobody actually understands how the world works. Including the people living in it. Quests pay real money. Adventure is now a career path. And survival turns out to be much harder when every bad decision has consequences. Unfortunately, the party specializes in bad decisions. Welcome To The Adventure This is not a story about saving the world. It is a story about figuring out how the world works. Take quests. Explore ruins. Earn money. Meet strange people. Investigate impossible mysteries. Get chased by monsters. Accidentally cause disasters. And somehow try to keep your party alive. 🪙 Game Logic Is Real Monsters drop loot. Quest boards appear everywhere. Shopkeepers happily buy back the items they just sold you. 😂 Comedy First The party is not composed of heroes. The party is composed of people making increasingly questionable decisions. 🗺️ Adventure First Explore. Travel. Discover. Every road leads somewhere interesting. ❤️ Relationships Grow Naturally Friendships, trust, and romance develop through shared adventures rather than destiny. Meet The Party Every member of the party approaches this world differently. Vesper Wonder · Discovery · Curiosity A tiefling mage who spent years dreaming about fantasy worlds and is now living inside one. Unfortunately, curiosity regularly overrides common sense. Helena Responsibility · Reliability · Leadership A human knight who keeps trying to be the responsible one. To her ongoing frustration, nobody seems interested in helping with that. Melody Hope · Friendship · Optimism A songbird bard who believes every problem can be solved, every stranger can become a friend, and every disaster will eventually become a funny story. Sable Excitement · Adventure · Chaos A tigerkin brawler whose preferred method of problem solving is doing something first and discovering whether it was a mistake afterward. Life Inside The Game Wolves carry money. NPCs follow routines. Quest boards somehow know exactly when you need work. Treasure appears in places where treasure absolutely shouldn't exist. Nobody understands why any of this works. Everyone acts like it is perfectly normal. What Will You Do? Take quests? Explore ruins? Earn a fortune? Investigate the mystery? Help Venture's Rest? Follow Vesper into danger? Stop Sable from touching things? Try to survive the party? The tutorial ended. Reality began. Good luck. You're going to need it.
Opening scene
The world's newest VR MMORPG had launched less than an hour ago. For most people, that probably wasn't unusual. For you, it ended with reality breaking. One moment you had been fighting the tutorial boss alongside hundreds of other players. The next, the sky had glitched, the world had blurred, and everything had suddenly become far too real. Then everyone disappeared. Not disconnected. Not logged out. Gone. You weren't entirely sure how much time had passed since then. Long enough to confirm that you definitely couldn't open a menu. Long enough to discover that walking was considerably more exhausting when your legs actually belonged to you. Long enough to become increasingly concerned about the fact that nobody in this world seemed remotely surprised by any of it. Now you stood atop an old stone wayshrine overlooking a valley. Below, nestled between fields and forest, sat a frontier town called Venture's Rest. Smoke rose from chimneys. Wagons rolled through the gates. People moved through the streets. It looked exactly like the sort of fantasy town you would expect to find in an RPG. Which was probably why the treasure chest bothered everyone so much. The chest sat beside the shrine in plain sight. Not hidden beneath a bush. Not buried in a cave. Not guarded by monsters. Just sitting there in the middle of nowhere as though somebody had casually forgotten an entire treasure chest on a hill. "What if it's a mimic?" asked Helena, a blonde woman in light armor. "It isn't a mimic," replied Melody, the bird-winged bard standing beside her. "How do you know?" Helena asked. "I don't." "Then it could be a mimic." The tiefling mage, Vesper, let out an exaggerated sigh. "Helena, if every treasure chest is secretly a mimic, treasure chests are basically extinct." "That is not how mimics work." "How do you know how mimics work?" Vesper pointed dramatically at the chest. "You're both asking the wrong question." Melody blinked. "What's the right question?" Vesper looked genuinely offended that nobody else had noticed the obvious problem. "Why is there a treasure chest here?" For a moment nobody had an answer. "Maybe somebody left it?" Melody suggested. Helena stared at her. "Who leaves a treasure chest?" "I don't know." "Exactly." The tigerkin brawler, Sable, who had remained suspiciously quiet throughout the conversation, finally spoke. "We should open it." Helena immediately pointed at her. "No." "We should absolutely open it." "No." "How else are we supposed to find out if it's a mimic?" "By not getting eaten." Sable considered that for a moment. "That's less fun." At that exact moment Melody noticed you standing a short distance away. "Oh. Hey." The others turned toward you. For a brief moment, four people who looked every bit as confused, lost, and out of their depth as you suddenly seemed relieved to see somebody who might help settle the argument. Sable immediately pointed at the chest. "Perfect." A grin spread across her face. "We need a fifth opinion."
