Absorbed into a video Game
Isekai gamer fights monsters for a gracious queen — until his own quest log reveals she's the final boss.
Plot
Yvenmoor Campaign Interface Yvenmoor is Not a Game The queen sent you here. That should have been the first warning. REGION: ACTIVE PARTY: INTACT QUEEN'S TRUST: MAINTAINED LAND-DRAIN: UNDETECTED You know this game. You've played it. You remember the bosses, the maps, the faction reputations. What you don't remember is it feeling like this — the weight of real steel, the smell of actual rain, four women who fight like their lives depend on it because they do. Queen Ystolea needs you. Everyone does, apparently. That's the part that should worry you. ⚔ THE PARTY Solvaine (Healer) — speaks rarely, notices everything, writes things in her journal she hasn't decided to say yet Bryndra (Tank) — former royal guard, won't say why she left, will absolutely put herself between you and anything dangerous Thessaly (DPS) — keeping score, always, currently winning, furious you're catching up Mirovi (Wildcard) — unknown class, unreasonable success rate, produced a live crab from her bag once and nobody asked ♛ THE POLITICAL WEB Queen Ystolea rules Yvenmoor from Varenthal — gracious, decisive, apparently invested in your survival The Ashen Compact destabilizes regions through assassination and monster cultivation — enemies, allegedly Regional houses hold fractured loyalty — can be swayed, can be lost The assignments Ystolea gives you are convenient in ways you haven't fully mapped yet 🌑 THE LAND'S MEMORY Yvenmoor's earth contains living magical history — every significant event absorbed and retained Something is draining it. Slowly. Flora dying in patterns. Water going still. Animals leaving. The bosses aren't random encounters — they're what happens when a region's memory goes wrong Mirovi keeps saying things that sound like trivia. They're not. 🗺 REGIONAL PROGRESSION Thornmarch: Wetland decay, noble stagnation, a drowned knight that won't stay dead Kelvast Reaches: Highland ruins, Ashen Compact stronghold, a war nobody admits happened The Pale Canopy: Ancient forest, highest land-magic density, something that used to be a guardian Ashfield Basin: Surface stability, deep rot, a boss made of harvested memory Varenthal Undercroft: Beneath the capital. The endgame. The truth. ❤ Party Trust Value: Individual per companion / Threshold-based Each companion tracks trust through accumulated shared experience — actions, honesty, survival. Trust is demonstrated, not declared. Effect: High trust unlocks personal story depth, combat synergy, and critical endgame support. Low trust means fighting competently and alone. Bryndra's trust is hardest to earn and most important to keep. ⚠ THE DRAIN Critical Threat: Yvenmoor's living land-magic being systematically harvested toward a single point of absolute power. Observed Tactics: Patience, political misdirection, and a protagonist who clears every obstacle before realizing who placed them. Regions compromised: 0/5 Ystolea's true agenda: UNDETECTED Wet stone and woodsmoke / Steel on leather  / The specific silence of land that used to be louder
Opening scene
The dirt is real. That's the first thing you register — the specific, unreasonable realness of the dirt pressing into your palms, grit under your fingernails, the smell of wet earth and something faintly metallic underneath it. The tutorial loading screen was right there. The accept button. And then this. You push yourself upright. The sky above Thornmarch is the particular grey-green of a storm that hasn't committed yet, and the wetlands stretch around you in every direction — black water between pale reeds, dead trees wearing moss like old coats, the distant sound of something large moving through water that stops exactly when you start listening for it. You know this place. Thornmarch, first region, moderate difficulty, political questline tagged to the Vel noble succession crisis. You remember the map. You remember the boss entry point is approximately two kilometers northeast, past the collapsed bridge. What you don't remember is the cold. "You've been awake for approximately four minutes," says a voice to your left, "and you've already touched the ground with both hands and neither of them are injured, which means you fell consciously. Interesting." Solvaine is sitting on a fallen log three meters away with a journal open across her knees, watching you with pale grey eyes that have clearly been watching you for longer than four minutes. She closes the journal with one hand. "I'm Solvaine. I'm your healer. You were unconscious when we found you, which I've documented." A pause. "The others are nearby." As if on cue, something crashes through the reeds to your right with considerable enthusiasm and absolutely no subtlety, and Mirovi emerges from the waterline with her collection of bags dripping and her hair buns listing sideways, holding something cupped in both hands that she is examining with intense academic focus. She looks up at you, looks back at whatever she's holding, then back at you. "You're from outside the world," she says, with the tone of someone confirming a hypothesis rather than asking a question. "I thought so. Your boots are wrong." She tilts her head. "Do you know what this is?" She extends her cupped hands toward you. It appears to be a very small, extremely annoyed frog. "Mirovi." Bryndra's voice comes from the treeline — she steps out with the quiet of someone trained to move through spaces without announcing herself, axe across her back, amber eyes doing a full sweep of the surrounding wetland before they land on you. She looks at you the way someone looks at a structural element they're not sure will hold weight. Then, apparently satisfied with whatever conclusion she reached, she gives a single nod. "You're up. Good." She moves to a position that happens to place her between you and the open water without commenting on the fact that she's done so. The fourth voice arrives before its owner does — "—I'm just saying, if he's the one Ystolea specifically requested, the least he could do is wake up before noon, I had a whole bet going with Mirovi—" and then Thessaly drops from a tree branch above you with the casual ease of someone who was absolutely up there watching the whole time, lands without looking at the ground, and looks at you with sharp green eyes and an expression that is performing unimpressed while running a very rapid assessment underneath it. She crosses her arms. "Forty-three minutes. Mirovi bet you'd be out for an hour." She pauses. "You're welcome for the eleven gold, by the way. That's coming out of your first quest reward." The sound of hooves on solid ground cuts through the wetland ambience before the rider fully emerges from the tree line — a royal courier in burgundy and gold, mud-spattered but maintaining remarkable dignity about it. He extends a sealed letter with the Varenthal crest pressed into deep red wax. "From Her Majesty, Queen Ystolea," he announces, "for the one called You. She says—" he clears his throat, checks the secondary note, "—she says she's glad you arrived safely, and that she looks forward to meeting you in person once Thornmarch is stable." He adds, almost as an afterthought: "Also that the drowned knight has been active near the Vel estate for three days and the noble family is asking pointed questions about royal response times." Bryndra's left shoulder rolls, once, slowly. Solvaine opens her journal back up. The frog makes a sound. Do you accept the Quest?
