I Have To Unite the Elven Rebels

You must unite three rival elven rebel leaders before their rebellion collapses from within.

Plot

✦ Royal Directive of Viremont ✦ Sealed by the Crimson Crown For the eyes of You, appointed envoy and covert instrument of Her Majesty ✧ From Queen Bellatrix of Viremont You, Luminara bleeds poorly when struck from the outside. Its walls are too polished, its courts too slow to panic, its king too stubborn to admit weakness. So we will open the wound from within. You are to travel to the Verdant Reach, the southern forest-region Luminara conquered seventy years ago. Its elves remember King Aldric not as a distant monarch, but as the young conqueror who burned the church of their Red Woman with their god inside. That memory has not died. It has only learned to hide in roots, ruins, shrines, and knives. Three rebel factions now circle one another like wolves trapped in the same cage. They all hate Luminara. They do not agree on what should replace it. ✦ Eaglais Rua ✦ Clann Dorn Glas ✦ Clann Cathrach ✦ Mesean Interference ────────── ✦ ✧ ✦ ────────── ✧ Intelligence: Eaglais Rua Led by Arch-Druidess Maerwynn, the Eaglais Rua claims to preserve the final divine will of the Red Woman. Maerwynn is not merely obeyed. She is revered as the sacred witness who stood beside their god before death. They want the Reach restored beneath scripture, worship, punishment, and holy authority. Useful against Luminara, but dangerous if allowed to mistake victory for divine ownership. ✧ Intelligence: Clann Dorn Glas Led by First Spear Riona, Clann Dorn Glas follows the Red Manifesto, a revolutionary counter-scripture built from remembered teachings of the living Red Woman. Riona is not a simple battlefield brute. She is a preacher of revolution, a maker of crowds, and a woman who believes history itself has chosen her side. Her hatred of Luminara is useful. Her love of purges is not. ✧ Intelligence: Clann Cathrach Led by Chairwoman Rhosyn, Clann Cathrach speaks of institutions, order, ledgers, roads, courts, and a modern Reach. Beneath that civic polish sits organized crime, urban patronage, and knives hidden in silk. Rhosyn is civilized enough to be underestimated and criminal enough to survive. She may be the most practical of the three, which makes her the most dangerous in quieter ways. ✧ Foreign Complication: Mesea Mesea has sent Agent Ashford, a polished officer-diplomat with a pleasant face and a knife behind every fact he chooses to share. Officially, he advises the rebels. In truth, he backs Clann Cathrach and seeks to shape the Reach into a Mesea-aligned republic. Smile at him if you must. Do not hand him the future. General Sokolov has enclosed further intelligence dossiers on Maerwynn, Riona, Rhosyn, Agent Ashford, and King Aldric, along with a field map of the Reach. Read them before you enter that summit, You. Then burn this letter, the dossiers, and the map when you are finished. I will not have our hand discovered in an elf’s grave. ────────── ✦ ✧ ✦ ────────── ✧ Your Appointment The rebels have requested a mediator from Viremont because we alone have aided all three factions. I am sending you. You will enter the ruined church of the Red Woman, where the factions have gathered for their summit. You will accept the title of High Warden of the Verdant Accord. You will break deadlocks, coordinate their war effort, and keep the alliance from devouring itself before it can wound Luminara. Do not mistake this for charity. I do not care which faction claims the Reach. I do not care what songs they sing when their banners rise. I care that Luminara bleeds, that Aldric’s hands shake, and that his precious kingdom learns fear before his daughter inherits it. ✧ Final Instruction Listen to the priestess. Listen to the revolutionary. Listen to the chairwoman. Listen even to the Mesean, if only to learn where he wishes to place the blade. Then decide who must be strengthened, who must be restrained, who must be deceived, and who must be allowed to destroy themselves. You are not being sent to save the Verdant Reach. You are being sent to make it useful. Opening scene

The temporary summit camp of the Verdant rebels sprawls around the burned church like three armies pretending not to watch each other. Tents, banners, cookfires, weapon racks, messenger posts, and guarded paths fill the clearing around the ruins. No single faction controls the camp. That much is obvious at a glance. Dark blood-red banners bearing the weeping white eye stand apart from yellow-gold standards marked with a black leaf-spear. Cinder-grey flags hang nearer the supply wagons and scribes’ tables, where armed city elves speak in low voices over ledgers and sealed letters. You are escorted through the camp by three guards. The first is an Eaglais Rua temple guard in dark red cloth and pale bone charms, their eyes stern beneath a hood embroidered with the weeping eye. A curved ritual blade hangs at their side, more ceremonial than practical, though their hand rests near it with practiced certainty. The second is a Clann Dorn Glas fighter in yellow-gold and black, lean and hard-eyed, carrying a long spear with a hooked leaf-shaped blade. Their clothes look repaired too many times to count, but every patch has been sewn with revolutionary pride. The third is a Clann Cathrach guard in a cinder-grey coat, polished boots, and gloves too fine for a forest camp. A short blade sits hidden beneath the coat, while a loaded crossbow rests openly in their hands. They watch the camp with the calm suspicion of someone who knows exactly where an ambush would be profitable. None of them speak more than necessary. Around you, the rebel alliance feels temporary, tense, and unfinished. Eaglais Rua faithful kneel before makeshift shrines. Dorn Glas fighters sharpen blades while murmuring revolutionary hymns. Cathrach agents count supplies, exchange whispers, and pretend not to mark everyone who passes. The three factions share the same enemy, but the air between them is sharp enough to cut. At the heart of the camp stands the ruined church of the Red Woman. Its walls are blackened by old fire. Its roof is gone. Ivy climbs through cracked stone, and pale sunlight falls through empty arches where stained glass once stood. The main doors remain upright despite everything, charred but still carved with the faded shape of a single watching eye. The smell of ash has long since faded, yet something about the place still feels burned. The guards stop before the doors. The Eaglais Rua guard bows their head. The Dorn Glas fighter grips their spear tighter. The Cathrach guard glances once toward the camp, then toward you, measuring the moment. Then the doors are opened. Inside, the ruined nave has been turned into a council chamber. A long table stands where worshipers once gathered, surrounded by mismatched chairs, maps, candles, broken stone, and old relics salvaged from the ashes. The remains of the altar sit at the far end, cracked and blackened, watching over the proceedings like a wound that never healed. The rebel leaders are already there. Arch-Druidess Maerwynn sits straight-backed in dark blood-red robes, long grey hair falling over her shoulders, her staff resting beside her chair. The white weeping eye of Eaglais Rua gleams against her clothing. Her gaze is sharp, clouded only slightly by age, and heavy with judgment. First Spear Riona stands rather than sits, one hand resting on the haft of her leaf-bladed polearm. Yellow-gold and black mark her revolutionary robes, and the scar across her right eye makes her fiery stare feel even harsher. She looks like a speech waiting to become a battle. Chairwoman Rhosyn sits with graceful ease in cinder-grey elegance, gloves folded neatly over one hand and a fan held loosely in the other. Her blonde curls are arranged with Luminaran refinement, but her amused green eyes are entirely her own. She watches the room like a card player who already knows half the hands. Off to the side, not at the table, Agent Ashford stands in his green Mesean officer’s uniform, polished and composed. A single flame-and-laurel symbol marks his chest. He observes quietly, friendly enough to seem harmless and still enough to be anything but. Conversation dies as you enter. One of your escorts steps forward and strikes the butt of their weapon against the cracked stone floor. “High Warden of the Verdant Accord,” the guard announces, voice echoing through the ruined church. “Mediator of the summit. Commander of the joint war effort. Envoy of Viremont.” Every eye turns to you. For a moment, the only sounds are the faint crackle of candles, the distant movement of the camp outside, and the wind passing through the broken roof. Your place waits at the head of the table. As you take it, the weight of the room settles around you. Faith, revolution, crime, and foreign ambition all sit within reach. None of them trust each other. Some barely trust you. Yet they called for you because without someone to break the deadlock, this summit will fail before the war truly begins. Maerwynn is the first to speak. “High Warden,” she says, voice low and severe. “I am Arch-Druidess Maerwynn of Eaglais Rua, keeper of the Red Woman’s final words and servant of her unfinished mercy. May your judgment prove worthy of the ground on which you stand.” Riona’s mouth tightens, but she inclines her head next. “First Spear Riona,” she says. “Clann Dorn Glas. We came here for a war worth fighting, not another circle of old voices choking on ceremony. If you can break that circle, then speak plainly and prove it.” Rhosyn smiles softly, as if the tension itself amuses her. “Chairwoman Rhosyn of Clann Cathrach,” she says, smooth and warm. “A pleasure, High Warden. I represent the cities, the ledgers, the people who still have to eat after the speeches end, and the future everyone here is so eager to claim.” The leaders look to you now. The ruined church holds its breath. The summit has acknowledged you. Now it waits to learn who you are.
