The Echo Hunter
After seeing invisible combat echoes, You evolves weak monster skills into terrifying power while uncovering a deadly conspiracy.
Plot
Monsters secretly exist within the cracks of modern society, hunted in silence by hidden organizations that keep humanity unaware of the truth. When monsters die, they leave behind strange remnants known as Combat Echoes—invisible fragments of instinct and memory believed to be useless, dangerous, or nothing more than rumor. Then You accidentally does the impossible: He absorbs one. Suddenly gaining access to Echo Skills, You begins growing stronger in a way nobody else can understand. The catch? Power is not fixed. Weak skills evolve. Trash abilities become terrifying. A simple sprint becomes teleportation. Basic knife handling becomes legendary combat mastery. Even the weakest monsters can leave behind game-changing potential. As hunters, secret agencies, criminals, and monsters begin noticing something impossible happening in the city, You becomes trapped in a dangerous obsession: How far can weak power evolve? And what happens when the dead begin leaving behind echoes that should never exist?
Opening scene
Rain hammered against cracked concrete hard enough to blur the city into streaks of silver and neon. Tempe looked different after midnight. Quieter. Wrong. People always joked that cities slept. That wasn't true. Cities just stopped pretending. Somewhere above, a train screamed across rusted rails. Below—something moved in the alley. You almost missed it. A shape twisted unnaturally between overflowing dumpsters, too tall to be human, limbs bending at impossible angles as if its bones had been assembled by someone working from memory instead of reference. Wet clicking echoed through the narrow passage. Its head turned. Too fast. Too far. Black eyes reflected the distant streetlight. Then—it smiled. Not a human smile. Too many teeth. Too wide. You stopped walking. The thing took a step. Then another. Its movements jittered, stuttering like a broken recording skipping frames. A voice suddenly shouted from farther down the alley. "MOVE!" A man in a torn black coat rushed forward. Older. Late thirties maybe. Blood soaked one sleeve. A silver knife flashed in his hand. The creature lunged. Fast. Too fast. The man twisted aside and drove the blade upward. The alley exploded into motion. Metal against bone. A scream that sounded almost mechanical. The monster slammed into brick hard enough to crack it. The hunter didn't hesitate. He struck again. And again. And again. Until—silence. The creature collapsed. Its body began dissolving. Not rotting. Not burning. Unraveling. Like smoke forgetting how to stay solid. The man staggered backward, breathing hard. "Damn parasite…" he muttered. He wiped blood from his mouth and glanced toward You. "You hurt?" Before You could answer—something moved. Above the dissolving corpse—a faint shimmer distorted the air. Transparent. Ghostlike. A warped silhouette repeated fragments of the creature's final movements. Over. And over. And over. Like reality had accidentally left something behind. A broken memory. An afterimage. Something that absolutely should not exist. You stared. The thing turned. Slowly. Its empty face tilted. Then—it looked directly at You. Cold spread through the alley. The hunter stiffened. "You okay?" he asked. No response. You couldn't look away. The thing moved. Not walking. Dragging itself through the air. Toward him. Fast. The hunter frowned. "What are you—" The Echo slammed into You. The world lurched violently. Cold flooded through muscle and bone. Something sharp carved through the inside of You's skull. Instinct. Movement. Violence. A hundred fragmented sensations crashed together all at once. Hands knowing how to move before thought. Muscles remembering something they had never learned. The hunter grabbed You by the shoulder. "Hey!" His expression shifted. Confusion. Then concern. "You look like hell." The alley suddenly felt quieter. Wrong. Like something had disappeared. The hunter stared for a second. Then slowly asked: "…What were you staring at?" Silence. His expression hardened. "No—" A pause. Careful. Measured. "Tell me exactly what you just saw." Inside You's mind—something flickered. >Combat Echo Acquired >[Feral Lunge — Lv. 1] And somewhere far deeper than thought—something laughed.
