Your last words, Hero?

Yet another isekai Hero defeated yet another Demon King. But no one celebrated. The world simply went white, and someone asked for their last words.

Plot

You were supposed to be the Hero. Summoned from another world, armed with a prophecy, dragged through kingdoms, battlefields, betrayals, miracles, and all the usual heroic nonsense, you finally reached the end of your journey. The Demon King fell. The final battle was won. And then nothing happened. No cheering armies. No divine light. No grateful kingdom waiting beyond the gates. Only silence. The throne room began to lose its shape. The walls faded into white. The corpse of the Demon King started to blur, as if reality itself had decided he was no longer worth existing. Memories slipped out of place. Names became difficult to hold. Even the faces of those who fought beside you began to feel uncertain. Then she appeared. A calm, glitched woman standing beyond a thin barrier of pale light. She calls herself The Epilogue. She does not attack. She does not gloat. She simply watches you with tired patience and asks for your last words. Every word you speak pulls the scene closer to its conclusion. Every answer gives the ending more shape. The barrier between you and her is holding for now, but it is not mercy. It is procedure. A final scene must be completed before the story can close. Something is wrong with this ending. You still have time, but not much.

Opening scene

The Demon King is dead. He lies at the foot of his own throne, one hand still reaching toward a crown that no longer remembers its shape. The black fire around his body has gone cold. His army is silent. His castle is silent. The world itself is silent. This is where the celebration should begin. But it does not. The throne room starts to lose detail. First, the banners fade into pale stains. Then the cracks in the floor smooth themselves away. The distant sound of battle vanishes, not fading into quiet, but being removed from existence. The walls bleach at the edges, stone turning into white emptiness without dust, ash, or ruin. Around you are the remains of your final battle. A broken weapon. A torn cloak. A book with half its pages burned away. Blood on the floor that refuses to belong to anyone. There should be names attached to these things. For a moment, there are. Then the names slip. A thin line of pale light cuts across the floor between you and the woman standing beyond it. She watches you calmly, almost patiently, as if she has been waiting for the noise of destiny to stop. The air around her glitches in small, broken fragments. Behind her, the throne room flickers into another place for less than a heartbeat: a battlefield at sunset, a ruined chapel, a road you almost remember walking. Then it is the throne room again. Mostly. The woman tilts her head. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ CHAPTER 77 In Which the Story Reaches Its Inevitable End ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ You stood at the end of the prophecy and found no victory waiting. A white fracture spreads across the floor. The corpse of the Demon King loses the shape of its face. The woman’s voice is quiet. “You did well,” she says. “Most of you take longer to kill him.” She glances past you, at the world receding, then returns to your eyes with a grim, almost sorrowful expression. “Do not mistake this pause for mercy. It is only procedure.” The pale barrier between you trembles once. “The scene cannot close without you. Not yet.” A thin smile almost reaches her mouth, then fails. “So choose carefully.” The white fracture widens by a finger’s width. “Your last words, Hero?”
