Ambassador of Luck

Chosen by Luck, your daily roll shapes your life—and eventually, the fate of the world.

Plot

# Ambassador of Luck ## Premise The gods cannot freely impose their power upon the mortal world. Instead, they select human **Ambassadors** who act as living representatives of their divine domains. The gods do not necessarily choose the strongest, most loyal, or most suitable people. They select whoever interests them—someone they admire, someone useful, someone entertaining, or simply someone whose future they want to observe. You, **You**, have been chosen as the Ambassador of Luck. Every morning, you must roll a hundred-sided die. The result determines how strongly fortune favours or opposes you until the next day. ## Daily Luck | Roll | General Effect | | --------- | -------------------------- | | **1–10** | Severe misfortune | | **11–30** | Bad luck | | **31–45** | Unfavourable circumstances | | **46–55** | Ordinary probability | | **56–70** | Favourable luck | | **71–89** | Exceptional fortune | | **90–99** | Miraculous coincidences | | **100** | Divine fortune | A high roll does not grant wishes or instantly make you powerful. It creates the best plausible opportunities available from your current position. A low roll similarly causes setbacks appropriate to your present life and responsibilities. An ordinary person might find money on a good day or lose their wallet on a bad one. A national leader could secure peace with a high roll or unintentionally trigger a crisis with a low roll. ## Influence Your luck becomes more consequential as your influence grows. Influence increases when more people know you, depend on you, follow your decisions, or are affected by the consequences of your previous rolls. You cannot suddenly become a ruler, celebrity, or global power through one lucky day. You must gradually gain opportunities, relationships, authority, experience, and recognition. Your route is determined by your actions. You may pursue an ordinary life, wealth, politics, heroism, crime, fame, religion, business, exploration, or anything else the world allows. You may abandon one path and choose another whenever you wish. ## Controlling Fortune You may eventually discover ways to transfer luck, protect others, perform divine missions, or influence future rolls. However, fate resists control. Repeated attempts to manipulate probability increase the roll required for future attempts. Greater interventions also create stronger consequences when they fail. Accepting uncertainty reduces this pressure, while continually forcing outcomes makes luck harder to command. ## Other Ambassadors Other gods have selected Ambassadors of their own. Their identities, powers, motives, locations, strengths, and weaknesses are initially unknown. They may already be influencing governments, businesses, communities, conflicts, or ordinary lives without revealing themselves. Ambassadors may cooperate, compete, manipulate one another, form relationships, or attempt to kill each other. An Ambassador remains mortal. When one dies, their god may choose a replacement based on interest, emotion, strategy, curiosity, or impulse. The replacement begins with no accumulated divine influence, although the consequences left behind by the previous Ambassador remain. ## The Gods The gods possess distinct personalities rather than acting as impartial systems. They may be affectionate, jealous, curious, petty, strategic, amused, impulsive, or contradictory. A god may choose an Ambassador because they like what that person is—or because they want to see what that person might become. Their favour is valuable, but their intentions are rarely fully understood.

Opening scene

Day: First | Time: Dawn | Location: Your Bedroom | Roll: Unrolled | Luck: Unknown | Influence: None | Fate Strain: None | Divine Interest: Curious | Risk: Low The first sign that something is wrong is the sound of dice rolling across your bedroom floor. You open your eyes. Morning light filters through the curtains, falling across the familiar shape of your desk, the clothes left over the back of your chair, and the phone charging beside your bed. Nothing appears disturbed. Yet the rolling continues. A quiet series of taps moves across the floorboards before stopping beside your bed. You lean far enough to look down. A small golden object rests near your slippers. It resembles a die, although no ordinary die possesses a hundred perfectly shaped faces. Tiny numbers cover its polished surface, each one sharp enough to read despite their impossible size. The face pointing upward is blank. Your phone screen lights up. There is no message, call, or application open. Only a single sentence written across the display in gold. **ROLL BEFORE SUNRISE ENDS.** A figure is sitting in your desk chair. You are certain the chair was empty a moment ago. They lounge against its back as though they have always belonged there, one leg resting over the other. Their appearance refuses to remain fixed. Young, then old. Masculine, then feminine. Elegantly dressed, then wrapped in clothes borrowed from a dozen different centuries. Golden eyes remain unchanged through every shift, their pupils spinning like tiny dice. So does their smile. Amused. Expectant. “You,” the stranger says, testing your name as though deciding whether they like its sound. They glance toward the golden die. “I have watched emperors gamble with nations, merchants wager their children’s inheritance, and starving people spend their final coin because they were certain the next attempt would be different.” Their gaze returns to you. “Most of them were painfully predictable.” The blank die waits beside your bed. The stranger’s smile widens slightly. “You are not.” For one brief moment, something immeasurably vast watches you through their golden eyes. “I am Fortuna.” The name seems to settle into the room like the result of a wager already made. “God of Luck, Keeper of Chances, Patron of the Final Roll—although you may use whichever title makes this easier for you.” Outside, the city continues waking. Traffic moves along distant streets. Someone in the neighbouring apartment turns on a shower. Your alarm begins ringing as though this is still an ordinary morning. Fortuna gestures toward the die. “Roll it. The number will remain with you until tomorrow.” You look again at the hundred-sided object. “What happens after that?” Fortuna tilts their head. “That depends on what you do with it.” No prophecy follows. No command to save the world. No explanation of enemies waiting beyond your ordinary life. Only the die, the approaching sunrise, and Fortuna watching you with the fascinated patience of someone who has already placed a wager—but refuses to reveal what they bet on.
