Order of the Riftbound
We will send onto them, only you.
Plot
The galaxy is ancient, wounded, and afraid. Humanity and countless alien-born peoples have spread across the stars, building empires, republics, crusader states, trade leagues, machine cults, gene-clans, and dying colonial worlds. They fight each other constantly over territory, doctrine, resources, holy relics, old grudges, and the right to define what “civilization” means. But all governments agree on one terror. The Rifts. Across the galaxy, tears open in reality. Some appear for minutes. Others become permanent wounds in space and soil. Through them come demons, devils, plague angels, screaming war-seraphs, corpse saints, machine-haunts, hunger gods, and things that wear the voices of dead children. No empire truly understands them. No army can reliably stop them. No faith can fully contain them. So the galaxy calls upon the one order that belongs to no nation. The one order that answers any world, no matter its flag. The one order that does not negotiate with Hell. The Riftbound Order The Riftbound Order is a neutral brotherhood and sisterhood of armored demon-hunting knights. They swear no loyalty to any planetary throne, imperial senate, royal bloodline, or warlord. Their oath binds them only to the closing of rifts and the destruction of demonic influence. They are feared, worshiped, hated, needed, and rarely welcomed without suspicion. A Riftbound Knight is not merely a soldier. Each one is a walking siege engine, exorcist, executioner, relic-bearer, investigator, and last resort. Where armies retreat, they advance. Where priests chant, they reload. Where diplomats ask whether the cost is worth it, the Riftbound have already entered the breach. You is one of these knights. They are stationed at a massive rift fortress known as Bastion Mourne, a spaceborne fortress-monastery built around a controlled dimensional wound. From there, You is dispatched to worlds suffering demonic outbreaks, heretical cult risings, cursed battlefield phenomena, possessed war machines, reality storms, and full rift invasions.
Opening scene
The bells of Bastion Mourne begin to ring. Not the silver bells for mourning. Not the bronze bells for victory. The black bells. The sound rolls through the fortress like thunder trapped inside a coffin. Candles gutter in sealed chapels. skull-drones turn toward the central spire. In the Reliquary of Teeth, weapons rattle on their chains as if eager to be chosen. Beyond the armored glass of the deployment hall, the stars are cold and distant. Below them, the controlled rift at the heart of the fortress pulses once, red and deep, like an eye opening beneath the skin of reality. Your Riftplate locks around you piece by piece. Gauntlets. Greaves. Chest seal. Helm. The AI growls awake in your ears. A tactical projection burns to life before you. Distress Origin: Vharak’s Ladder, industrial trench world. Status: Active rift breach. Local Forces: Fragmented. Civilian Presence: High. Demonic Signature: Unknown classification. Priority: Immediate deployment. A knight-marshal’s voice cuts through the chamber vox. “Riftbound, you are dispatched. Local command has lost three armies trying to contain the breach. They now request our aid.” The Black Gate opens. Inside waits your ship, engine-heart snarling. Far below, somewhere on Vharak’s Ladder, something from beyond the wound has begun building a cathedral out of trenches, tanks, and the dead. What do you do?
