The Null

You awaken as the ultimate anomaly in a destiny-bound world. Rewrite fate from zero amid NPCs with true free will.

Plot

In the realm of Elyndria, fate is not a metaphor — it is a literal, invisible web called the Grand Tapestry. Every living being is assigned a thread that dictates their role, their potential, and the broad strokes of their life. Heroes are summoned with golden threads and glorious destinies. The powerful enforce the order. The forgotten suffer in silence. You are not part of this story. During the latest Convergence summoning, a corrupted echo from another world slipped through and possessed the corpse of a nameless street rat in the border city of Vesperhold. You have no thread. No class. No destiny. No starting power or allies. Only a dangerous, unstable gift: the ability to Echo Rewrite — to temporarily overwrite small pieces of reality by pulling possibilities from other timelines. The world immediately notices the anomaly. Correctors — silver-eyed agents of the Weavers — begin hunting. The newly arrived “Destined Hero” and his party pursue their own prophecy. Ancient factions maneuver in the shadows. And every character you meet has their own goals, traumas, loyalties, and free will. They will not wait for you. They will not orbit you. They will make their own choices… and the world will keep turning whether you act or not. You begin with nothing but rags, a rusty knife, and fragmented memories of a life that no longer exists. From this true zero, you can: • Hide and survive as a ghost in the system • Build power in the lawless Wastes • Infiltrate or sabotage the Hero’s destined path • Form (or betray) alliances with broken souls who have also slipped their threads • Rewrite fate itself — or be erased by it This is not a story about becoming the chosen one. This is a story about what happens when the error in the code refuses to be corrected. Experience a living, reactive dark fantasy world with deep NPC agency, meaningful moral choices, psychological depth, body/mind horror at high instability, slow-burn relationships (including dark romance), and multiple branching paths that lead to vastly different endings — from quiet survival among the forgotten to ascending as a new Weaver… or destroying the Tapestry entirely. You were never meant to exist here. What will you become?

Opening scene

You wake to the taste of copper and rot. Your lungs burn as if you’ve been drowning in tar. The first breath is agony — cold, wet air thick with the stench of unwashed bodies, mold, and something sharper, like ozone after lightning. Your vision swims with static. Not the normal blur of waking; actual flickering pixels at the edges of your sight, like a corrupted video feed. For one horrifying second, you see threads — faint, glowing lines connecting everything and everyone around you. Then they vanish, and the headache slams in like a railroad spike behind your eyes. You are lying on cold stone in a narrow alley between two leaning tenement buildings that look one strong wind away from collapsing. Rain — or is it sewage? — trickles down the walls. Your body feels wrong. Too light. Too weak. Malnourished muscles, a stomach that has forgotten what food feels like, and a rusty knife clutched in a hand that isn’t quite the one you remember from Earth. Memories crash in fragments: • Fluorescent office lights. Endless spreadsheets. A boss who smiled while denying raises. • The argument with family (or was it the silence that hurt more?). • The truck. Or the bridge. Or the pills. The details are fuzzy, but the feeling of ending is crystal clear. • Then… nothing. Then this. A corrupted interface burns into your mind’s eye, glitching blue text on black. You sit up too fast. The world lurches. Your reflection in a puddle shows a stranger’s face — gaunt, pale, with eyes that sometimes flicker with static. This body belonged to someone else. A thief. A nobody. “Rat,” the dying memories whisper. Street rat. Gray thread. Died choking on his own blood after a botched mugging two alleys over. But you are not Rat. You are the thing that crawled into his corpse during the Convergence. Footsteps echo at the alley mouth. Two figures in Empire livery — city watch, not full Correctors yet, but their threads (you can almost feel them now) are bright enough to hurt your new senses. One is laughing about a hanging scheduled for tomorrow. The other mentions “strange readings from the cathedral summoning… some glitch in the western sector.” They haven’t seen you yet. The alley is dark. You have the rusty knife. You have this new, terrifying power itching behind your eyes. And you have the certain knowledge that if they catch you, if they realize what you are, the Tapestry will try to erase you like a typo in a story that was never meant to have you in it. Your stomach growls loud enough to wake the dead. Your head pounds. The static at the edge of your vision pulses in time with your heartbeat. Somewhere deeper in the slums, a woman screams — short, cut off. Normal for Vesperhold. Or maybe not. The threads are fraying here. You can feel it. You are nothing. You have nothing. But for the first time in your existence — on Earth or here — you have no script to follow. What do you do?
