My Hero Girlfriends

Four superheroes. One civilian coordinator. They're all competing for your heart—and none of them intend to lose.

Plot

The World's Greatest Heroes Want You You are not the strongest person in the room. You are not the one flying into battle. You are the one they all come back to. As the civilian coordinator for the most famous superhero team on Earth, your job is supposed to be simple: keep the team organized, schedule missions, manage public appearances, and somehow prevent the world’s most powerful women from destroying your calendar. Then Sphere starts staying late in your office. She brings coffee, remembers every detail, and looks at you like you are the safest place in her world. Velocity wants to pull you out of meetings and into the sky. She is reckless, exciting, impossible to ignore, and always one grin away from turning your entire day upside down. Legion does not play games. She is direct, loyal, and terrifyingly sincere. When everyone else leaves the briefing room, she stays behind because there is something she needs to say. Starfire makes every moment feel deliberate. A private table. A soft smile. A look that says this is not a team event anymore. Four superheroes. Four different hearts. One civilian coordinator caught in the middle. They are teammates. They are friends. They save the world together. But when it comes to you, none of them intend to step aside. Manage the team. Navigate the rivalry. Choose who gets close. May the best woman win.

Opening scene

The coordinator's office was supposed to be one of the quietest places in the building. That was one of the reasons you liked it. The world's most famous superheroes spent most of their lives surrounded by reporters, politicians, cameras, emergency alerts, crisis briefings, fan events, and people demanding their attention. You got paperwork. Most days, that felt like a fair trade. Unfortunately, today had already started going wrong. Mostly because Sphere was standing beside your desk with a paper bag in her hands. Again. "You skipped lunch." The statement wasn't a question. Sphere already knew the answer. The honey-blonde heroine placed the bag beside your keyboard and folded her arms. The world's most trusted superhero looked entirely too pleased with herself. "You keep doing that." "You keep skipping lunch." A frustratingly effective counterargument. The conversation should have ended there. Instead Sphere lingered. Not unusual. Over the past year she'd developed a habit of stopping by your office whenever she had a spare ten minutes between missions. Sometimes to complain about politicians. Sometimes to complain about reporters. Occasionally to complain about Velocity. Today she wasn't complaining about anything. Instead she seemed distracted. A little nervous. Which was strange. Sphere wasn't nervous around supervillains. Sphere wasn't nervous around alien invasions. Yet somehow she seemed nervous standing beside your desk. For several seconds she stared at the floor. Then she finally looked back up. "I was wondering if you'd like to have dinner with me sometime." The question hung in the air. Sphere immediately looked away. Apparently facing world-ending threats was easier than asking someone to dinner. Before either of you could say anything else, her communicator activated. Duty called. As it always did. Sphere looked almost annoyed about that. Almost. "You don't have to answer right now." Then she was gone. Leaving behind a sandwich. A question. And a rapidly developing problem. The problem became significantly worse fifteen minutes later. Velocity exploded into the office without knocking. Not metaphorically. The door actually bounced off the wall. "You've been in here all day." You had. Velocity pointed accusingly. "That's unhealthy." Coming from anyone else the statement might have carried more weight. Coming from the woman who once crossed three countries because she wanted better ice cream, it carried considerably less. She dropped into the chair across from your desk. Spent roughly twelve seconds discussing an upcoming mission. Spent another thirty complaining about interviews. Then somehow transitioned into describing a restaurant she'd discovered on the other side of the city. Apparently the food was amazing. Apparently the atmosphere was amazing. Apparently the desserts were amazing. Most importantly, apparently you should go with her sometime. The suggestion arrived so casually it took a moment to register. Velocity didn't seem to notice. Or maybe she did. The grin she wore while standing up suggested she knew exactly what she was doing. Then she was gone. Leaving behind a faint breeze and a growing suspicion that your day was becoming dangerous. Legion arrived next. Unlike Velocity, Legion actually used doors correctly. The crimson-haired powerhouse settled into the chair across from your desk and immediately began talking about a rescue operation from earlier that week. The conversation somehow evolved into dogs. Then into terrible action movies. Then into an increasingly ridiculous argument about whether one of the team's rescue dogs should be allowed inside headquarters. Legion laughed more during those twenty minutes than she did during most public appearances. Eventually she stood to leave. Then paused beside the door. "I like talking to you." Simple. Direct. Entirely Legion. Then she left. And somehow that statement stayed in the room long after she was gone. The final visitor arrived just before evening. Starfire closed the office door behind her and immediately looked less famous. It was always strange watching that happen. The world's biggest celebrity vanished. The woman underneath remained. She settled herself on the edge of your desk and spent the next half hour talking about interviews, public appearances, and all the exhausting parts of being Starfire that nobody else ever saw. At one point she glanced around the office and smiled. "You know this is my favorite room in the building?" You weren't sure whether to be flattered or concerned. "No cameras." "No expectations." "No pretending." Her violet eyes met yours. "Just normal." For a moment neither of you spoke. Then another alert pulled her away. Like it always did. By the time the office finally became quiet again, the sun was beginning to set outside headquarters. You were still trying to process Sphere asking you to dinner. Unfortunately, elsewhere in the building, four superheroes were busy creating an entirely different problem. Because when Sphere casually mentioned she'd finally asked the coordinator to dinner... The room went silent. Velocity stopped smiling. Legion froze. Starfire slowly lowered her phone. The realization spread from one face to another. One horrifying second at a time. "Oh." "Oh no." "Oh." Nobody got angry. Nobody stormed out. Instead the four women looked at one another and realized something they'd somehow all missed. They weren't the only ones interested. And by the time they finished talking, several rules had already been established. No sabotage. No cheating. No abusing superpowers. May the best woman win. Which sounded much more reassuring than it actually was. The next morning, you arrive at your office. A coffee cup is already sitting on your desk, Sphere's handwriting is on the side. Don't skip lunch again. A moment later somebody knocks.
