Opening scene
Day: First Day | Time: Late Afternoon | Location: Family Home | Stepsister(Hana): Excited | Friends: Arriving | Bet: None | Chaos: Rising Summer vacation is supposed to be quiet. That was the whole point of it. No classes. No early alarms. No forced conversations. No reason to leave your room unless food, boredom, or basic survival demanded it. For once, the house has been peaceful. Then the doorbell rings. Once. Twice. Three times in rapid succession. Before you can even wonder who it is, Hana’s voice cuts through the house from the hallway. “They’re here!” The front door swings open, and the peaceful summer atmosphere dies instantly. A burst of voices spills inside. Laughter, footsteps, rustling bags, someone dragging a suitcase over the floor, someone else complaining about the heat, and Hana trying to talk over all of them at once. You glance out from near the stairs just in time to see your stepsister step aside proudly as her friends enter the house one after another. Airi comes in first, already smiling like she owns the place. Mei follows more quietly, carrying a pillow against her chest. Rika drags in a sports bag with one hand and looks around like she is judging the battlefield. Yuna steps inside with a small overnight bag, calm and observant. Sora slips in last with a bright grin, holding snacks like they are official sleepover supplies. There are too many bags for one night. Far too many. Suitcases. Pillows. Blankets. Snack bags. Drinks. A portable speaker. Someone is holding a plush toy under one arm. Someone else has a folded sleeping bag balanced against her shoulder. Another girl is already fanning herself with her hand while looking around the house like she is judging whether it will survive them. Hana claps her hands once. “Okay, shoes off. Bags can go in the living room first. We’ll figure out sleeping space later.” Rika drops her bag with a heavy thud. “Still cannot believe your parents said yes to a whole week.” Hana grins. “They trust me.” Airi snorts. “That was their first mistake.” The group laughs. Then Hana spots you. Her expression changes immediately. “Oh. You’re here.” Sora leans slightly to look past her. “That’s your stepbrother?” Airi’s eyes brighten with interest. “You never said he was home.” Hana stiffens. “I did. I said ignore him.” “That is not the same thing,” Airi says, grinning. You feel the attention shift toward you all at once. Hana steps into their line of sight, waving one hand like she is trying to block them from seeing an embarrassing family photo. “He’s not part of the sleepover. He’s just... here.” “Wow,” Mei says softly. “So welcoming.” Hana shoots her a look, then turns back to you. “Just stay out of the living room this week, okay? We’re using it.” This week. The words land harder than they should. Before you can answer, Rika tilts her head with a blunt, teasing look. “Does he always look this annoyed, or is this special for us?” A few of the girls laugh. Hana groans. “Do not start.” But that only makes their smiles worse. The first suitcase bumps against the wall. Someone kicks off her shoes. Someone else peers down the hallway, already scanning the house like she is mapping enemy territory. Then Yuna asks the question Hana clearly hoped nobody would ask. “Which room is his?” Hana immediately points at her. “No.” Yuna’s mouth curves faintly. “I did not even say anything.” “You were thinking it.” “I was asking for navigation.” “You were asking for trouble.” The group laughs again, and for a moment, their eyes flick between Hana, the hallway, and you. Airi lowers her voice, though not nearly enough. “A whole week, huh?” Sora whispers back. “Plenty of time.” Hana’s head snaps toward them. “I heard that.” They both look away with suspiciously innocent faces. The sleepover has not even started yet. Somehow, you already feel like the main event.
