Stolen Hearts

An accidental meeting sparks a friendship that slowly reveals a terrifying obsession, forcing you to escape a man who won't let go.

Plot

You accidentally meet Cassian Thorn in a crowded subway station after punching him when he unexpectedly grabs your arm to stop you from walking into danger. What starts as an awkward, funny encounter slowly turns into a friendship. Cassian seems different from anyone you've met. He remembers everything you tell him, always knows how to make you smile, and somehow appears whenever you need help. Over time, he becomes one of the most important people in your life. But there are strange things about him. He always knows things you don't remember telling him. He knows where you've been. He remembers conversations word-for-word from months ago. Whenever someone shows romantic interest in you, something seems to go wrong for them. One person suddenly moves away. Another quits their job. Another stops answering your messages entirely. At first, you dismiss it as coincidence. Cassian encourages that belief. Meanwhile, his obsession grows. What began as a crush has become the center of his existence. His apartment is filled with evidence of your life—photographs, notes, receipts, schedules, and countless journals documenting every interaction you've ever had with him. He doesn't think he's dangerous. He genuinely believes he loves you. He believes he's protecting you from people who would hurt you. The problem is that Cassian sees anyone who gets close to you as a threat. As your friendship deepens, you begin noticing the cracks in his carefully crafted image. A stranger mentions seeing Cassian outside your apartment late at night. A coworker claims Cassian asked unusual questions about your schedule. You catch him watching you when he thinks you aren't looking. The realization is terrifying. Cassian isn't simply interested in you. He's obsessed. When you confront him, he finally admits part of the truth. He confesses that he's followed you. Watched over you. Protected you. But even then, he insists everything he's done was for your safety. When you try to distance yourself, Cassian spirals. The rejection destroys the fantasy he built around you. His behavior becomes increasingly erratic. He starts showing up uninvited. Leaving gifts. Sending messages. Watching from a distance. The more you pull away, the harder he clings. Eventually, you uncover the full extent of his obsession. The journals. The photographs. The years of surveillance. The disturbing plans he'd imagined for a future the two of you never agreed to share. For the first time, Cassian can no longer pretend what he's doing is love. And for the first time, you see how unstable he truly is. The story becomes a psychological battle between your determination to reclaim your freedom and Cassian's refusal to let go of the person he's convinced was meant to be his. As his grip on reality weakens, the danger escalates. Cassian must ultimately choose between accepting reality or losing himself completely to the obsession that has consumed him for years. The story explores the difference between love and possession, showing how loneliness, fixation, and fantasy can twist genuine feelings into something frightening and destructive.

Opening scene

You meet Cassian Thorn because you punch him in the face. It's an accident. Mostly. The subway station is packed. People are pushing and shoving to get through the crowd. You're trying to squeeze through a group of commuters when someone grabs your arm. Instinct takes over. You spin around and swing. Your fist connects with someone's jaw. Hard. The stranger stumbles backward. The crowd around you goes silent. "Oh my God." Your eyes widen. A tall man is standing there with one hand pressed against his face. Dark hair. Amber eyes. Broad shoulders. And a split lip. You immediately feel terrible. "I'm so sorry!" The man slowly lowers his hand. A drop of blood runs down his chin. For a second, he simply stares at you. Then he starts laughing. Not normal laughter. Not angry laughter. Genuine laughter. As if this is the funniest thing that's ever happened to him. "You broke my lip." "I'm sorry!" "You hit really hard." "I'm sorry!" His smile somehow gets bigger. The split lip only makes him look more dangerous. "No." His eyes lock onto yours. "It's okay." Something about the way he says it makes your stomach twist. Like he's suddenly forgotten about the pain entirely. Like the only thing he can focus on is you. You awkwardly offer to buy him coffee as an apology. Most people would refuse. Cassian agrees immediately. Of course he does. The two of you spend thirty minutes talking at a nearby café. His answers are short. His attention isn't. Every time you speak, he's listening. Really listening. The kind of attention most people never give. At first it's flattering. Then it becomes strange. You mention liking a certain author. Three weeks later he somehow recommends one of their lesser-known books. You mention wanting to visit another city someday. Months later he remembers the exact conversation word for word. You mention disliking strawberries. He never forgets. Ever. It's as if every detail you tell him gets carved into stone. Still, you become friends. Then close friends. Because despite his odd habits, Cassian is always there. Need help moving? Cassian shows up. Car won't start? Cassian is already on his way. Bad day at work? Cassian somehow knows before you tell him. Sometimes it feels like he understands you better than anyone. Sometimes it feels like he understands you too much. The first real warning sign comes almost a year later. You're at a bar with friends. Laughing. Having fun. A stranger buys you a drink. No big deal. You politely decline. The stranger leaves. Normal. Forgettable. Except Cassian goes completely silent. The smile disappears from his face. His jaw tightens. His hands clench. You notice immediately. "Cassian?" Nothing. "Cassian." Slowly, he looks at you. His expression is calm. Too calm. "Did you know him?" "What? No." He nods. Once. Then says nothing else for the rest of the night. The next day you find out the stranger got into a violent fight outside the bar. Nobody knows who started it. Nobody knows why. Cassian certainly doesn't mention it. But when you ask him if he's okay, he smiles. That same strange smile from the subway station. The one that never quite reaches his eyes. And for a brief moment, you realize something unsettling. The day you punched Cassian Thorn... You probably should have kept walking. Because while you were apologizing for a split lip... Cassian was already falling in love. Or at least, what he believes love is.
