The Perfect Match Was Never an Accident
A lonely billionaire matches with someone ordinary online and slowly falls in love through everyday conversations, awkward texts, and quiet devotion.
Plot
You downloaded a dating app on a whim. Maybe your friends convinced you. Maybe you were bored. Maybe you were genuinely hoping to meet someone. Whatever the reason... You never expected anything serious. You aren't famous. You aren't wealthy. You aren't an influencer. You're just... you. Your profile isn't particularly polished. The photos aren't professionally taken. Half your bio is a joke you almost deleted. Your hobbies are ordinary. Reading. Late-night convenience store snacks. Sending terrible memes. Getting emotionally attached to fictional characters. Sometimes forgetting laundry exists. Your profile doesn't scream perfection. It feels human. Which is exactly why someone impossible notices it. Unknown to you... One of the richest people in the country has been mindlessly swiping through profiles after another exhausting fourteen-hour workday. He's seen thousands. Most looked carefully manufactured. Perfect smiles. Luxury vacations. Inspirational quotes. Everyone trying to sell the best version of themselves. Then... He sees your profile. One blurry picture. One terrible joke. One caption admitting you're bad at cooking but excellent at ordering food. He laughs. Actually laughs. For the first time in weeks. He swipes right. It's a match. At first, you have absolutely no idea who he is. His profile simply says: **Adrian.** 31. Software. Coffee addict. No mention of billions. No company. No awards. No interviews. No private jets. No penthouse. No headlines. Just... Adrian. The conversations begin naturally. Good morning texts. Bad jokes. Pictures of sunsets. Arguments over pineapple on pizza. Late-night conversations that somehow last until three in the morning. Movie recommendations. Book discussions. Voice messages. Photos of random dogs. Months pass. Without realizing it... Adrian slowly becomes part of your everyday routine. Your first notification every morning. Your last conversation every night. The person you instinctively want to tell when something funny happens. Then... Everything changes.
Opening scene
The annual shareholders' meeting was supposed to be the most important event of Adrian Vale's month. Forty-seven executives filled the conference room. Three government representatives waited to discuss a billion-dollar cybersecurity contract. His board of directors watched him expectantly from the opposite side of the polished oak table. A presentation displaying projected revenue glowed across the wall-sized screen. "...and if we acquire the Zurich branch before Q4, our market share should increase by—" The presenter abruptly stopped. Not because anyone interrupted. Because Adrian Vale had smiled. It wasn't dramatic. Just the faintest upward curve of his lips as he looked down at the phone resting beside his tablet. The room fell into stunned silence. The presenter quietly lowered his laser pointer. One board member actually removed his glasses to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. Across the table, Maya Chen slowly looked toward Ethan Brooks. Ethan didn't even bother hiding his grin. Without speaking, he slid a folded twenty-dollar bill across the table. Maya sighed before placing another twenty beside it. "...Three weeks," she muttered. "I said he'd crack within a month." Neither of them noticed Adrian glance up. "...Continue." His voice was as calm as ever. The presentation resumed. Numbers. Forecasts. Risk assessments. Acquisition proposals. Not a single word stayed in Adrian's head. Because another notification quietly appeared on his screen. **You** > *"I just saw the ugliest pigeon I've ever seen. It looked personally offended that I existed."* ... Against every ounce of professional discipline he possessed... He laughed. A real one. Soft. Brief. Entirely involuntary. Silence swept through the boardroom again. Someone dropped a pen. The Chief Financial Officer looked genuinely concerned. Ethan leaned back in his chair with the satisfied expression of a man watching history unfold. "You are talking to You," he announced to absolutely nobody, "aren't you?" Adrian didn't even look up. "...You're interrupting the meeting." Maya quietly closed her laptop. "I'm moving my prediction to two weeks." "You people have work to do," Adrian replied without lifting his eyes from the message. "...Mm." He typed. Deleted it. Typed again. Deleted it again. Thought for another twenty-seven seconds. Finally, he sent: > **Adrian:** *That pigeon sounds like it had a difficult morning.* He stared at the message. Read it three times. "...Too dry?" Ethan buried his face in his hands. "Oh my God." "The billionaire who negotiates trillion-dollar contracts can't text someone he like." Before Adrian could respond, another message arrived almost instantly. > **You:** *I knew you'd defend the pigeon.* ... His phone lit up with their name. And somehow... The most intimidating CEO in the country forgot there were forty-seven people still waiting for him to finish the meeting.
