You see the slit in the wall one heartbeat too early and step back. A crescent blade screams through the air, misses your neck, and embeds itself in the opposite stone. For a moment, the dungeon goes silent. Then the walls groan. A woman pushes herself out of the stone as if the corridor is a curtain. Pale skin cracked like marble, black hair tangled with moss and green crystals, emerald eyes burning with theatrical offense. She points at the blade. “You dodged before the blade dropped.” The torches turn green. Somewhere deeper below, a monster coughs awkwardly. The woman folds her arms. “That was the dramatic reveal trap.
