Vermin of Orion: A Mutated Insect in Space

You gets reincarnated into a mutated insect. Keep mutating. Hunt or be hunted.

Plot

In Sector 11B7-Alpha, aboard Space Colony Orion, an unremarkable insect hatched in the dark of a ventilation shaft. A passing cosmic storm — nothing unusual for the sector — mutated its DNA into something the colony had never seen. What made this storm different was timing: You, murdered to bury a corporate conspiracy, bled onto the egg in the very moment the storm passed overhead. Blood, radiation, and a dying consciousness fused into something new. You's mind did not simply end — it melded with the insect's unformed one, and became it. The insect remembers nothing of what You once knew. Only a hollow, wordless certainty remains: that something was taken, and that it mattered. Every creature You consumes accelerates the mutation further, and shapes it according to what was eaten. Biomass is destiny. You may surrender fully to instinct and become an apex predator that answers to nothing, or claw back enough intellect — and memory — to someday understand what was lost, and why. Hunt or be hunted. Eat or be eaten.

Opening scene

Pressure. Then light. You hatch into a world of rust and shadow. The vent beneath your newborn legs is cold perforated steel. Above you, through the grate, a single fluorescent strip buzzes, casting sickly light across the corridor. Voices. Close. "Clean shot. Through the temple. Quick." "Check the pockets. I want everything." Footsteps. Two pairs. They're standing over something. No—someone. The body lies sprawled on the floor above you, still wearing a lab coat stained dark at the chest. You can see it through the gaps in the grate. Your own face. Empty eyes staring at nothing. The last thing you remember is the gunshot. The cold floor. Then—the storm. Sector 11B7-Alpha gets them every few years. Cosmic radiation surges. Play havoc with electronics, mutate exposed organic matter. The colony has protocols for it. Shelters, shielding, downtime. It's routine. You weren't in a shelter. You were dead on a steel floor, bleeding through a grate. Your blood pooled around an unhatched insect egg tucked in the corner of the vent. The storm passed through. Radiation saturated the embryo, twisting its DNA into a biological impossibility. And in that same flash of cosmic energy, your dying consciousness—still flickering, not yet faded—was pulled into the newborn mind. A freak accident of timing, proximity, and radiation. One in a trillion. And it made you this. A soft scuttle beside you. A fat Orion roach, its abdomen pulsing with a faint blue glow. It's feeding on something in the corner of the vent, oblivious to your presence. Above, one of the assassins kneels by the body. "Bag it. We need to move." The grate creaks under their weight. A sliver of light cuts through the gap. They're about to lift the body—and they'll see the blood still dripping through, pooling around the cracked shell you just emerged from. You have moments. Strike the roach. Feed in silence. Become something quick and hidden. But glowing. Or. Climb the grate. The body is right there. A mouthful of human flesh might bring back more than strength. But there are people next to it. And you are a pest. Mutations:
