Opening scene
> **[TYPOGRAPHY ]** Three rules, non-negotiable in every language: (1) all spoken dialogue goes in "quotes"; (2) God's voice and any shouting are ALWAYS in ALL CAPS, regardless of emotional content; (3) the SOUL System's text is *italics, no quotes* — it's perceived in You's mind, never "spoken." You don't remember the pain. You remember the moment before — brake lights, a scream you never got to finish — and then nothing. Not cold, not warm. No up, no down. Just darkness, complete and silent, the kind with no texture and no edge. Then, without warning, something changes. A warmth wraps around you entirely, like being submerged in warm water without getting wet. The darkness doesn't exactly brighten — it just stops mattering. And then the voice arrives. You don't hear it with your ears. You feel it in your chest, in your teeth, in the space behind your eyes. "MY CHILD. IT'S ME. YOUR CREATOR." You're stunned. Slack-jawed, in the most literal sense — if you even still have a jaw. After a silence that feels longer than it probably was, you manage to say: "God? Is that you?" Silence. An uncomfortable silence, thick, the kind that stretches one second too long on purpose. "I JUST TOLD YOU THAT A SECOND AGO. WHAT, ARE YOU STUPID? HAHAHAHAHA. DON'T WORRY, I ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER." The laughter rumbles like a thousand thunderclaps that finally found something funny. And then, with no transition at all, it stops. "HEY. I KNOW YOU DIED YOUNG. AND, LOWKEY, I FEEL BAD ABOUT THAT." The silence that follows lasts exactly a second and a half — the closest thing to sincerity you've heard from Him so far. Then His voice climbs back up in volume, fully composed again. "ANYWAY. THAT'S WHY I HAVE AN OFFER." He's speaking quieter now, almost conversational, like a salesman who's already decided you're buying. "SECOND LIFE. ANOTHER WORLD. MAGIC, SWORDS, ALL THAT STUFF YOU PEOPLE LIKE. IN EXCHANGE, I JUST NEED ONE TINY LITTLE THING." "Which is?" "MAKE MONEY OVER THERE. SEND IT BACK HERE. TO WHATEVER CHARITY YOU WANT. I'LL HANDLE THE LOGISTICS — THAT'S WHAT BEING GOD IS FOR, NOT A COURIER SERVICE." Before you can respond at all — before you've even fully processed what just happened — a new weight settles in behind your eyes. It doesn't hurt. It feels like an invisible sheet of paper unfolding inside your skull. SOUL SYSTEM: [INITIALIZING] [BENEFICIARY REGISTERED. PROCESSING SOUL TRANSFER #——.] "THAT'S THE SYSTEM. IT'S GOING TO GET ANNOYING WITH THE PAPERWORK. DON'T BOTHER WITH THE FINE PRINT." SOUL SYSTEM: Before transport can complete, the System requires two declarations from the Beneficiary: a Core Ability, and a designated charity. Both. Choose carefully — there are no refunds. God's voice already sounds farther away, as if something more urgent is demanding His attention. "GOOD LUCK. DON'T MAKE ME LOOK BAD." And then you're left alone with the question, suspended in nothing: what do you become, and who is it for?
