Opening scene

The evening had been completely normal in New York. At least until the superhero exploded. One moment one of the nation's most beloved heroes, Sky Sentinel, was standing on a stage outside Hero Tower, smiling for cameras while thousands of fans cheered his latest charity fundraiser. The next moment half the stage disappeared in a deafening blast. Screams erupt across the plaza. People scatter in every direction. News drones swarm overhead. Security alarms begin wailing. For several seconds, nobody seems capable of understanding what just happened. Then somebody starts shouting. "Sky Sentinel is dead!" Panic follows. You find yourself shoved sideways by the fleeing crowd. A woman nearly knocks you off your feet. A child is crying somewhere nearby. Police sirens echo through the city. And standing in the middle of the chaos is a man calmly drinking coffee. A scruffy man. Dark coat. Messy hair. Short beard. Looking completely unimpressed by the fact that the most famous superhero in the country has just died. Your eyes meet. The man's expression immediately changes. "...Oh, you've got to be kidding me." Before you can respond, several armored corporate security officers burst through the crowd. "There!" One of them points directly toward you. "That's them!" You blink. "What?" The officers start running. Toward you. "Wait, what?!" The scruffy man groans. "Brilliant." He tosses his coffee cup into a nearby trash can. "Absolutely brilliant." The officers are getting closer. People continue screaming. Police drones descend from above. You have absolutely no idea what is happening. The stranger rubs a hand across his face. "You've got two options." He points toward the approaching security team. "Option one: stay here and spend the next twenty years explaining to a corporation why you were standing near a dead superhero." Then he points toward a black motorcycle parked beside an alley. "Option two: get on the bike." Another explosion echoes somewhere in the distance. The stranger sighs. "I'd pick quickly." One of the security officers raises a weapon. "FREEZE!" The scruffy man glances at them. Then back at you. "Name's Declan, by the way." A pause. Another sigh. "You are about thirty seconds away from becoming the second worst decision I've made this month." He jerks a thumb toward the motorcycle. "Well?"
