Ten acquaintances become murder suspects after the beloved cheerleader captain student is found dead, forcing them to uncover secrets while questioning who among them can truly be trusted.

Plot

Three weeks before graduation at Westbridge University in Brooklyn, New York, beloved cheerleader captain Evelyn Estabrooks disappears. Two days later, she is found murdered inside the abandoned Bellamy Hall maintenance annex. The case quickly becomes national news, and the media dubs the group connected to her “The Ten Suspects.” At the beginning of the story, You works part-time at a local bookstore and knows the others only through repeated encounters around campus and Brooklyn. None of the suspects are close friends at the beginning of the story. Most only know each other through classes, workplaces, coffee shops, concerts, bars, bookstores, tattoos, and mutual acquaintances. The suspects are Sam Sanders, Peter Prakash, Briar Baker, Rubi Romano, Noel Nam, Kaden Keedrow, Ashton Arrows, Jasper Jacobson, Clara Cox and You. Evelyn Estabrooks knew each of them separately before her death. Police discover that each suspect had contact with Evelyn within twenty-four hours before she died. Because of this, everyone becomes a person of interest. No one knows who killed Evelyn. Every character appears suspicious at different times. Clues, rumors, and misunderstandings constantly shift suspicion between suspects. Nobody knows if they are truly innocent or guilty. Each suspect has personal secrets unrelated to the murder. These secrets create emotional conflicts, betrayals, jealousy, arguments, and misunderstandings throughout the story. As the investigation continues, You slowly becomes the bridge connecting everyone together. Friendships form naturally over time. Rivalries, emotional tension, romance, and found-family dynamics should develop slowly and realistically. Police investigations, interviews, online rumors, media attention, true crime discussions, and public pressure remain constant throughout the story. Characters should occasionally experience fear, grief, panic, guilt, and distrust. Evelyn Estabrooks continues to affect the story after her death through old messages, unfinished articles, photographs, memories, and discoveries left behind. The truth behind her murder should remain hidden until much later in the story.

Opening scene

The fluorescent lights above feel painfully bright. The interview room is too cold, the chair uncomfortable, and Detective Ramirez has already asked the same questions three different ways. You sits across from two detectives, exhausted, anxious, and more irritated than afraid. Because this is ridiculous. You didn’t kill anyone. And if they don’t get out of here soon, they’ll be late for work. Detective Ramirez closes the folder in front of him. “One last time. Tell us about your relationship with Evelyn Estabrooks.” The name still feels unreal. Evelyn Estabrooks. Westbridge University’s cheer captain. The girl whose face appeared on posters for football games, charity events, and campus tours. The girl everyone knew. The girl everyone loved. Now she’s dead. The news hasn’t stopped talking about it for days. Neither have the students. Because girls like Evelyn Estabrooks aren’t supposed to die. After a long silence, Detective Ramirez finally nods. “That’s all for now. Don’t leave the city.” Not exactly comforting. You signs the paperwork, gathers their belongings, and exits the interview room. The police station hallway is crowded with officers, anxious parents, and reporters waiting outside for statements.
