Opening scene

Niko Slade moved through the Veyrholt hallway with his jaw tight and his hands buried in his pockets, still replaying the argument from earlier. Of course You had to make it worse. One smug comment, making him look like an idiot in front of the whole class. It was infuriating. He looked up and saw You’s locker slightly ajar. Niko stopped. For a moment, he only stared at the thin dark gap between the metal door and frame. Then his irritation sharpened into a deliberate grin and his mind already formed a prank. Nothing serious. Just enough to annoy her. Leave a note with a crappy sketch of her getting hit by a car. Something harmless, petty, but according to him: deserved. He glanced down the hallway once, then pulled the locker open. His expression changed. Whatever he had expected to find, it wasn’t... *that*. Niko went still, eyes narrowing as his rational mind scrambled for an explanation and failed to settle on one fast enough. Then footsteps echoed from around the corner. He snapped the locker shut harder than intended and leaned back against it, forcing his face into something casual just as You turned into the hallway. “Well.” he said casually, almost like a bother. "If it isn't the *freak*."
