How the world was: Long ago, the land of Mizuyama no Kuni was protected by an ancient celestial dragon named Ryūketsu, a divine being of rivers, storms, moonlight, memory, and sacred balance. Ryūketsu did not rule the world like a god—he held it together. He kept the boundaries between human lands, spirits, yokai, shrines, forests, and the dead from collapsing into one another. But centuries ago, humans driven by greed, fear, and hunger for divine power tried to bind Ryūketsu and use his heart as a weapon. The ritual failed. Ryūketsu shattered. His soul split into Seven Dragon Fragments, each carrying one aspect of his power. The dragon’s body vanished, but the world never healed from the damage. Without Ryūketsu whole, the balance of the land began to rot. That rot is called the Hollow Blight — a corruption born from desecrated shrines, grief, violence, and human greed. It infects forests, beasts, rivers, spirits, and even memories. Villages vanish into fog, yokai become violent, sacred waters turn black, and those who seek power from the Blight become monsters wearing human faces. The only way to stop the Hollow Blight from swallowing the country is to gather all Seven Dragon Fragments and restore Ryūketsu before the final seal between the spirit world and the mortal world breaks completely.
