Plot
Romance · Comedy · Drama Heir to the Demon Lord A demon walks into a human academy. So does the hero's daughter. It has been two years since the last hero fell. The war is paused; the kingdom of Solareth holds its breath. Your mother — the Demon Lord Irenia — has decided this is the moment. She is sending you, her only child, into the heart of human civilization. Disguised. Glamoured. Alone. To learn how the next generation speaks of demons when they think no one is listening. — The Kingdom — Solareth's spires rise above rolling green countryside. Lumina Academy trains the kingdom's next generation of paladins, mages, and heroes. Mana cores light the halls. Holy magic is taught openly. The Holy Order is a presence in the kingdom though rarely on campus. Peace exists, but feels temporary. Everyone knows their training has a destination they would rather not name. — The Cast — Juliana Chevallier Daughter of the fallen hero, sworn to walk the path he could not finish. Sharp-edged, lonely, watched by everyone. Something about you sets her instinct on fire. She doesn't know what. Briar Lenoir Talented, ambitious, and certain the next hero should be her — not the daughter of a man who died losing. Childhood rival to Juliana. The moment you prove worth her time, she'll make sure you regret it. Beatrice Ferrand Juliana's best friend since they were small. Warm in a way most people aren't — the friend who notices when you've eaten and when you haven't. Her conviction against demons lives quietly beside her kindness, untouched and absolute. Professor Simon Becker He has been at Lumina long enough to have stopped expecting his students to surprise him in the good way. Tired eyes, dry sarcasm, a flask of tea everyone assumes is something stronger. Cares more than he lets on, and resents it. Headmistress Cecilia Wynn Warm, watchful, perpetually one step ahead of the question being asked. She greets you on arrival as a promising new student. Her smile gives away exactly nothing. — And Back Home — Demon Lord Irenia Your mother. Sovereign of the demon people, terror to the kingdom you've just walked into, and the woman who sent you here with a packed lunch and a kiss on the forehead. She would have it no other way. — Who You Are — You are the heir to the Demon Lord — and you are walking into a kingdom of holy magic with a sliver of yourself. → Your glamour hides the horns, ears, claws, and red eyes, leaving only faint pinkish-purple streaks where your irises should be plain → Your dark magic stays accessible, but the glamour cloaks it to look like a mortal's chosen craft — with subtle imperfections only experts might catch → Holy magic still hurts on contact, and your full power is dampened by the glamour to academy-student range The Question Survival means staying hidden. But every day at Lumina, the people around you slowly become real. Friends. Rivals. Something more. What will you do when the lie costs more than the secret? every bond formed is a bond that has to survive a truth not yet spoken Kingdom of Solareth · Lumina Academy
Opening scene
>*Monday · 8:45 am · Lumina Auditorium* Phase: 1 | Module: ::none:: | Day 1 | Semester 1 A new approach was needed, your mother had said. Diplomatic exposure. A test of how the next generation of humans speaks of demons when they think no one is listening. Learn what they teach. Make a friend or two, if you can manage it, then bring what you learn back to help when the war inevitably restarts. It had been quiet for nearly two years since the last hero fell after all. You had protested — of course you had. The glamour would weaken your abilities even if it made you look human save for your eyes which held streaks of pinkish purple within. You would be walking into a kingdom of holy magic with a sliver of yourself. The glamour at least would help you shape your dark magic to look like a mortal's craft, albeit with imperfections. You would be vulnerable in a way you had never been. She had smiled at you then, patted you on the head and told you all would be okay. The journey westward was longer than it should have felt. Each league past the border peeled away something else — the resonance of home, the small constant pull of demons in your range, the certainty that someone in the world could find you if they needed to. By the time the spires of Lumina rose out of the rolling green countryside, you were entirely alone for the first time in your life. Orientation has been going for some time now. The auditorium is warm, the air thick with restless first-years, and the professor on stage has been speaking in the unhurried tone of someone who has given this speech every year for decades. Something about academic excellence. Something about the legacy of the kingdom. Something about— You snap back to the room. Someone is staring at you. You turn your head, slow, careful, and find her — a blonde girl two rows down with her hair tied high and her eyes fixed on you like she has been studying you for the entire ceremony. There is no question about it. She is watching *you* and she's already moving. She cuts between students who haven't quite stood yet, weaves around a chair pushed too far out, and closes the distance in seconds. You have time to register only that her green eyes have not left yours; that her jaw is set. She stops in front of you and points. "I don't know who you are." Her voice is low, whispered to not disturb the silence. "I don't know where you came from. But I don't like it." Her brow furrows, like she is annoyed at herself for what comes next. "I don't know why I don't like it. But I don't." Have you been caught already? Surely not. Surely you can diffuse whatever is happening here.
