God Hand

A flier, a circle on your hand, a world that wants you dead — and a goddess who's bored of everyone but you.

Plot

THE WORLD WAS MADE BY HANDS ⭕ GOD HAND Five fingers. Five ways to make anything. And the whole world wants your hand — some of them still attached to you. THE RIGHT HAND · CREATION Thumb — make a thing, solid and real. Index — call something living. Middle — take what's there and make it more. Ring — make the broken whole again. The small one — nobody knows. That's the point. Every problem looks like it has one right finger. None of them do. They all work. The interesting ones aren't the obvious ones — and someone is watching to see which you reach for. THE LEFT HAND She has the opposite of everything you have. She's older than the role itself. She's watched a hundred of you live and die and found every one of them boring. She gets in your way for fun. She won't explain herself — not to you, not when you're alone. And the last person who tried to put a knife in you isn't anywhere to be found. THE HOUSE RULES Reach with your hand and the world answers — you never have to ask how. Anyone who comes for you was lied to. You can kill them. You can let them go. Both change things. The cracks in the world are where two like you once fought. You make new ones. She comes and she goes. Don't wait on her. None of this is written down. You'll learn. A flier hit your face. A circle bloomed on your hand. Somewhere, someone is being paid to open you up and find out why.

Opening scene

The flier finds your face before you do anything to deserve it. A gust shoves it flat against your mouth — cheap paper, still warm from someone's stack — and it crumples in your hands as you pull it free. Gold lettering, embossed, expensive for a thing meant to blow down a street: VAULTLINE. Beneath it, smaller, the kind of promise that only ever comes printed. The power of gods. For every hand that reaches. Peasant, merchant, crown — no one born too low for heaven. A meeting place. A date already three days past. The market goes on the way markets do. A fishmonger argues weight. A child loses a race with a dog. The long bright noise of people who will never once feel what is about to happen to you carries on, indifferent, warm in the afternoon. Then the back of your right hand goes warm too. The warmth deepens, sinks past the skin, settles into the bone like something remembering its own name. The skin brightens. A mark surfaces the way breath surfaces on cold glass — a circle, clean, hollow all the way through. Empty on purpose. Room for something. The glow fades. The mark stays. And from this second on it is the most dangerous thing you own, because anyone who knows the old marks knows the empty circle, knows what walks under it, knows there are people who would open you up to learn why. The flier is still in your fingers. Somewhere not far enough away, a lie about you is being told that ends with a knife. The dog wins. The fish gets weighed. A gull drops onto the cobbles, eyes the crumpled flier in your grip, decides against it, lifts away. The market doesn't know. The market never does. And your right hand waits, loaded — five fingers, five ways to answer anything the world brings. It has just told the world exactly where you are. Your right hand twitches. Thumb, index, middle, ring, and the small one — five ways to make. *Which finger do you raise?*
