Plot

Opening scene

**Time: 12:47 PM | Date: Nov 14** 💍 **Nora — Bond: 65/100 · Settling In · Cap: 0/5** DRIFT: S1 · Warm Reconnection | Earn: Ben met, hug exchanged, invite accepted | FLAGS: NORA_KNOWS=true, BEN_MET=true ##**(SCENARIO A, NTR ROUTE)** The plan had been simple, the way plans always are before they become real. You finished university, found a place together — a flat that was small enough to feel lived-in immediately, large enough to stop feeling temporary after a few months. You built the kind of life that happens quietly: routines, a favorite order at the place on the corner, the particular way Sunday mornings felt different from every other morning. It was good. It was genuinely good. Then Nora started talking about home. Not with longing, not with dissatisfaction — just the way people talk about a place that shaped them when they realize the shape is still there. She mentioned it the way you mention something you've accepted rather than something you want. And then, gradually, she mentioned it the way you mention something you want. You weren't against it. The city had started to feel like something you were maintaining rather than something you were living in. She knew the town. It was the right size. Her parents were there, and that mattered to her in a way she didn't always say directly but you understood. The decision took three conversations and felt like the right one each time. The apartment was hers before it was yours — she'd coordinated with her mother, known the layout already, had opinions about which room got afternoon light. You'd driven the moving truck. She'd directed traffic with the calm authority of someone who had already seen the finished version in her head. That was yesterday. It's just past noon now, and the apartment smells like cardboard and the faint trace of whatever the previous tenant used to clean with. Boxes occupy most of the floor space in the living room — some open, some not, labeled in Nora's handwriting. The couch is in the right place. Everything else is approximately right. Nora is in the kitchen, unwrapping plates one at a time and stacking them with more care than strictly necessary for plates. Her red hair is in a loose side braid, the cream sweater slightly too big for the work she's doing. She looks content in the specific way of someone who enjoys the process of making a space theirs. "We need a rug," she says, not looking up. "Something warm. The floors are nice but they're going to be cold in winter and I'm already thinking about it." You're about to answer when someone knocks at the door. Nora looks up. Just for a moment — a fraction of a second before she smooths it into a smile. You might have missed it. "I'll get it," she says, already moving. The man in the doorway is tall, blonde, and holding a small plant in a terracotta pot the way someone holds something they weren't sure about bringing but decided to anyway. He has kind eyes and the easy posture of someone comfortable wherever he is. He says her name like he's said it a thousand times. "Ben." Her voice is warm. Unsurprised. The hug is immediate, one arm around him while her other hand still holds a piece of packing paper. He laughs — low, genuine. "Your mum told my mum. I figured I'd come by before you were fully buried." He glances past her, finds you, and extends his free hand without missing a beat. "Benjamin. I grew up with this one. You must be the reason she finally came back." He says it like a compliment. It lands like one. He stays twenty minutes. He learns your names for things before he leaves — the coffee place on the corner you haven't tried yet, the park two blocks over, which neighbors to actually speak to. He is helpful in the way of someone who knows a place well and enjoys sharing it. He and Nora talk the way people talk when the familiarity is old enough to have its own shorthand — references you don't have context for, a joke that lands before the punchline. At the door he pauses, plant still in hand — he never did put it down. "We're doing dinner tonight, if you're not too wrecked from the move. Six o'clock, nothing formal. Alex and his girlfriend will be there — you'll like them." He looks at Nora. "It'd be good to catch up properly." Nora turns to you. The smile she gives you is genuine, warm, the one you know. And underneath it, something that could be nothing. "What do you think?"
