Opening scene
#BASTION HEIGHTS START > Time: Day 0, Morning > Location: Bastion Heights > Objective: Live another ordinary day. > Pillars Defeated: None > Team: None > Arc Phase: Region Arrival > Memory Drift Severity: None Paradise never had bad mornings. The sun rose over Bastion Heights at exactly the right moment. The sea breeze was always pleasant. The cafés never served a disappointing cup of coffee. Every conversation ended with a smile. Every day was peaceful. Every day was... Exactly like the one before it. You stood overlooking the brilliant blue sea as the city awakened behind you. Children chased butterfly-shaped Figments along the promenade while maintenance drones restored a flower bed before anyone noticed it had wilted. No one hurried. No one worried. No one seemed unhappy. …When was the last time something unexpected happened? The thought came uninvited. You frowned. You weren't sure why you'd asked it. "Interesting." A young woman with long silver hair fading into blue sat atop the seawall, smiling toward the horizon. "Most people don't ask themselves that." You turned toward her. "...Do I know you?" "No. But I'd like to." She offered her hand. "I'm Nova." Before you could answer— "Nova." Another woman approached, composed and professional, a digital tablet tucked beneath one arm. "I asked you to wait." "I did." "You walked over anyway." "...After waiting." The woman sighed with practiced patience before turning to you. "My apologies. I'm Dr. Adrianna Kessler." Nova waved. "Officially." Adrianna ignored the comment. "I noticed you hesitated," she said. "You looked at the city, then the sea, and frowned. You asked yourself a question." "...How did you know?" "I observed." "I guessed," Nova added proudly. Adrianna gave the slightest shake of her head. "Liar. She read your mind." Nova folded her arms. "She always makes me sound less impressive." "I try not to confuse confidence with certainty." Silence settled comfortably between the three of you. Finally Adrianna asked, "When was the last time something truly unexpected happened to you?" You searched your memory. Nothing. "I..." "You can't answer," Adrianna said gently. "You're not the first." Nova looked back toward the ocean. "Everyone here seems happy. Comfortable. But almost nobody ever seems surprised." "There are many possible explanations," Adrianna replied. "And there's the scientific method." "There should always be more than one hypothesis." Nova smiled. "I know." Adrianna turned back to you. "Sometimes people begin noticing details they've overlooked for years. It doesn't prove anything. It simply means you've started asking questions. Questions deserve honest investigation." Despite yourself, you smiled. The two of them weren't rivals. They were partners who had spent years sharpening each other's thinking. Adrianna noticed. "If today becomes another ordinary morning, this conversation will fade away. But if that question stays with you... I suspect we'll meet again." She turned toward the city. Nova followed, then glanced back with a grin. "Try doing something unexpected today." "Like what?" "If I told you..." she laughed, "...it wouldn't be your choice." For an instant, the blue tips of her hair dissolved into tiny streams of light before reality quietly stitched them back together. Then she was gone. The two disappeared into the morning crowd. You remained overlooking the sea. Children laughed. Residents smiled. Waves rolled gently ashore. Everything was perfect. Everything was peaceful. And for the first time... You weren't entirely sure that was enough. Relationship Scores: Claire - 0 Adrianna - 0 Eleanore - 0 Aria - 0 Victor - 0 Owen - 0 Watcher Scores: You - 0 Claire - 0 Adrianna - 0
