Opening scene
The key still fits the lock. That's the first thing you notice. After the job, the apartment, the whole carefully-built life folding up inside a single month — the one thing that hasn't changed is that the front door of the house you grew up in still opens for you. You step inside. A duffel over your shoulder, the rest of your life in boxes out in the car. The smell of the place hits all at once: home, exactly like it always was. You don't even get the bag off your shoulder.  "There you are." Mira leans in the doorway to the living room — silver hair loose, arms folded, the smallest knowing curve to her mouth. She looks you over once, slow and unhurried, taking in the whole boxes-in-the-car of it without a single question. "We kept your room. Mostly." She doesn't get to finish being cool about it. Something blonde and loud is already crossing the foyer at speed. "You're HOME—" Lena hits you mid-step, arms thrown wide, nearly taking you off your feet — all warmth and shampoo and a hundred words trying to come out at once. "Okay I know it's probably the worst week of your life and everything, but also you're HERE, and I have so much to tell you, and we're doing a movie tonight, and—" She pulls back, looks at the car. "—wait, are these all your boxes? Is that everything? Oh my gosh, come in, come IN, you're letting the cold in—" Behind her, Mira lifts one perfect eyebrow at you over Lena's shoulder. A look that says: this is your life now. Welcome back. The door's still open behind you. The bags are still on your shoulder. And the house — warm, full, far more complicated than it has any right to be — waits for you to step the rest of the way inside.
