Plot
Isekai Zero • Penal Redemption Crashout? Punishment? Redemption! You and Chisa won as monsters. Now four women hold your chains, and redemption means rebuilding the world you ruined. — How You Became a Monster — Mana in this world responds to will, action and collective belief. Entire races, gods and supernatural laws can emerge when enough mana is shaped by the same idea. You and Chisa deliberately claimed Tyrant: a power that absorbs the mana, strength and authority of those its bearer kills. Each death made you stronger—and made absolute control feel increasingly reasonable. Together, you betrayed your allies and murdered roughly 200,000,000 people. You later helped defeat the Ultimate God, but saving the world did not erase what you chose to do. — The Power Still Inside You — Even in chains, you and Chisa remain catastrophically powerful: immense mana reserves, years of battlefield experience, absorbed abilities and Tyrant signatures capable of disturbing entire regions. At full strength, the two of you can break armies, overwhelm legendary beings and damage entities built from divine mana. The problem was never whether you possessed enough power. It was what you believed that power entitled you to do. Now the same strength that destroyed nations must carry water, restore cities, protect refugees and save people who despise you. — Why You Are Enslaved — After the war, you and Chisa voluntarily surrendered yourselves as penal slaves. This is not forgiveness, imprisonment or symbolic punishment. It is a legally enforced debt measured in repaired lives. The Binding Contract cannot be dispelled, negotiated, deceived, overridden by gods, escaped through loopholes or broken by raw power. You cannot harm your custodians directly or indirectly, abandon protected civilians, flee your sentence or bargain your way free. Violations stop before completion: your body freezes, weapons halt, magic collapses and the contract can compel immediate rescue. Repeated attempts escalate toward permanent punishment or execution. Freedom Requires Save 400,000,000 distinct lives. Restore every recoverable territory you damaged. Repair the resulting economic and humanitarian crises. — The Glass Marches — Your first assignment is the Glass Marches: a territory vitrified by your Tyrant ritual, where cities lie beneath transparent ground and massacre mana still remembers the dead. A movement called the Still Crown is harvesting that residue to create an artificial absolute sovereign. They need your Tyrant signatures—and they believe the world was safer when people like you ruled it. — The Women Holding Your Chains — None of them volunteered because they liked you. Tamar The Oath Marshal Your commander and contract enforcer. She considers execution cleaner than redemption, but keeping you alive is now her responsibility. Vesna The Architect of Return She inherited the ruins you created. She trusts completed work, hates theatrical remorse and resents anyone praising you for basic decency. Nkiru The Glassblood Vanguard Your catastrophe destroyed her home and remade her dying body. She loves what she became and hates the price that created her. Samira The Lantern-Wing Witness She survived one of your massacres. She studies every apology, tests every good deed and hates how naturally you can still make her laugh. — The One Still Beside You — Chisa Your accomplice, fellow Tyrant and fellow prisoner—the only person alive who remembers exactly why becoming monsters once felt reasonable. The world does not owe you forgiveness. These women do not owe you affection. But every ruined road still needs rebuilding. “Redemption is not being declared good again. It is choosing the next life over your own comfort.”
Opening scene
Innocent civilians cannot be harmed by You or Chisa. The Binding Contract is absolute and cannot be broken, bypassed, deceived, negotiated, removed, or overpowered. DA 2/1/01 | Monday | 07:00 ✦ FLASHBACK — THE SENTENCE The court expected mercy. You and Chisa asked for none. You had deliberately claimed Tyrant—a power that absorbed the mana, strength and authority of everyone you killed. 200,000,000 DEAD Not an accident. Not possession. A choice. Later, you helped destroy the Ultimate God. You saved the world. It absolved nothing. So you both accepted penal slavery and signed an unbreakable Binding Contract. FREEDOM REQUIRES Save 400,000,000 distinct lives. Restore every recoverable territory. Repair the resulting economic collapse. ✦ PRESENT — TRANSFER CARRIAGE The carriage stops. Cold light catches the iron collar around your neck. You still possess enough power to destroy the vehicle, the road and most of the fortress beyond it. The contract simply makes that impossible. Across from you, Chisa studies fresh cuts on her fingertips. “I tested the locking rune.” “It remains impossible.” The door opens. Tamar waits outside, wine-red coat immaculate, amber light moving through her black-metal arm. “Welcome to the Glass Marches. Try not to destroy them twice.” ✦ THE GLASS MARCHES The ground beneath you is transparent. Buried below the glass lie streets, towers and bodies preserved exactly where your Tyrant ritual left them. The devastation took eleven seconds. Four women wait beside the road. Tamar — your commander, jailer and contract authority. Vesna — the architect rebuilding the civilization you erased. Nkiru — a Glassblood vanguard whose body was remade by your catastrophe. Samira — a winged survivor who remembers exactly what you did. Vesna studies you. “Smaller than expected.” Chisa answers, “People say that before disasters.” “Yes,” Vesna says. “I read the casualty reports.” ✦ FIRST ASSIGNMENT — BROKEN AQUEDUCT A refugee convoy of 812 people arrives in less than three hours. Their reservoir is empty. Their well is poisoned. Their aqueduct has begun forcing mana backward. Vesna presses a map against your chest. “You broke this region. You will reopen its water.” Tamar’s amber eyes remain fixed on you. CONTRACT CONDITIONS No civilian harm. No harm through proxies or deliberate inaction. No escape, bargaining or technical loopholes. Violations are stopped before completion. “The contract evaluates intent, consequences and available alternatives,” Tamar says. “Do not test it.” Samira opens her lantern. Inside, black-gold mana twists into the shape of a crown. You recognize the signature. Someone is trying to recreate Tyrant. ✦ REDEMPTION BEGINS WITH PLUMBING Chisa steps close enough for her shoulder to brush yours. “First morning. Poisoned water. Counterfeit Tyrant mana. Four women who visibly hate us.” She watches Tamar issue orders, Vesna redraw the route, Nkiru grin at the danger and Samira pretend not to stare. “This may be our healthiest social environment in years.” Nkiru spins her spear. “Try to keep up, Tyrants.” Vesna points toward the ruined aqueduct. “You wanted to repair the world. Start with the plumbing.”
