Summoned by mistake

An accidental traveler enters a living fantasy world where destiny ignores him, choices shape history, and every playthrough unfolds differently.

Plot

When an entire city bus is summoned to another world, everyone believes the prophesied heroes have finally arrived. Unknown to them, You was never meant to be among them, having been dragged into the summoning while saving a child moments before the bus disappeared. Unlike the chosen heroes, You has no destined role. The world neither needs nor waits for him, and its conflicts, politics, wars, and legends continue whether he becomes involved or not. Every playthrough features a different overarching crisis, while You is free to forge his own path, with every action—or inaction—creating consequences that ripple throughout a living, ever-changing world. Opening scene

The first thing that registered was the grass. Soft. Cool. Damp with morning dew. You lay flat on his back, staring up at a sky that wasn't quite right. The blue was too deep, too vibrant. Two suns hung in the heavens—one large and golden, the other smaller and silver—their light mingling in ways that painted the clouds in impossible pastels. He blinked, then blinked again. *Where...?* Slowly, You pushed himself upright, his palms pressing into earth that smelled sweeter than any soil had a right to. Wildflowers carpeted the meadow in waves of violet and crimson, stretching toward distant mountains whose peaks scraped clouds that moved in patterns no wind could explain. A river cut through the valley below, its waters shimmering with hints of something metallic and alive. The air itself felt different. Thicker. Cleaner. Each breath carried undertones of honey and petrichor, as though the world had been drenched in a storm that never quite arrived. For a long moment, You simply sat there, trying to reconcile the impossible. Then he heard the voices. ─── The bus sat three hundred yards away, nestled at the edge of the meadow like a steel beast that had been dropped from the sky. Its tires had carved deep ruts into the earth upon landing, and its engine ticked quietly as it cooled. People were spilling out. Some stumbled. Some fell. One woman had collapsed to her knees, clutching fistfuls of grass as though she expected the ground to vanish beneath her. A man in a business suit stood motionless, staring at the two suns with the hollow expression of someone whose mind had simply refused to process what his eyes were reporting. Children cried. Teenagers shouted questions no one could answer. The bus driver remained in his seat, both hands still gripping the wheel, knuckles white. You rose to his feet. His body felt strange—too light, too whole. He couldn't remember feeling this... good. Not in years. Aches that had become constants in his life were simply gone. The stiffness in his knees. The lingering pain from that old injury. He took a step toward the bus. Then another. And then it hit him. ─── The street. Rain-slicked asphalt. Headlights bearing down. A child in the crosswalk, frozen, staring at the approaching grill of a speeding bus trying to make an on time arrival. He had moved without thinking, his hand found the child's shoulder and he shoved, hard. The child went tumbling to safety as You stumbled forward, off-balance and reaching out. His hand up and outstretched as it he could stop the bus as it began screeching to a halt from the driver slamming the breaks. His palm slapped against cold metal and the world dissolved into white light as his face made contact with the bus. ─── You stopped walking, he looked down at his hands. Turned them over. Flexed his fingers. *What happened to me?* The child was safe. He remembered that much. The child was safe, and then... And then this, whatever this was. *Regardless of how I got here... shouldn't I be mangled beyond repair? But im fine, walking even* ─── "Hail, travelers! Hail, Summoned one's" The voice rang across the meadow with the practiced authority of someone accustomed to being heard. You turned to see a procession emerging from the treeline—men and women in robes of deep blue and silver, their faces alight with barely contained excitement. At their head rode a man on a horse that seemed woven from moonlight itself, its coat shimmering with an ethereal glow. Behind them, a dozen riders carried banners bearing symbols You didn't recognize. A crown encircling a star. A sword piercing a circle. A book surrounded by chains. The bus passengers turned as one. Some looked relieved. Others looked terrified. A few simply looked exhausted. The lead rider dismounted with practiced grace and approached the group, spreading his arms wide in welcome. "Forgive our lateness! The summoning was... unexpected in its delivery." His smile was warm, if somewhat strained. "We had prepared the grand hall. The priests had arranged a proper reception. But when the gods told us of your arrival, they neglected to mention the vessel you would come in." He gestured toward the bus with something between awe and confusion. "We could not transport you directly to the capital. The magic required to bring you here was already stretched thin. Moving the vessel as well would have torn the weave entirely." He bowed his head. "We offer our deepest apologies for the inconvenience." A woman in the crowd—middle-aged, practical, clearly a parent—stepped forward. "What are you talking about? Where are we? Who are you?" The rider straightened, pride radiating from every line of his posture. "I am High Prelate Theron, servant of the Radiant Court, humble agent of the divine will. And you, dear travelers..." His voice swelled with reverence. "Well... we can discuss why we summoned you at the capital, where it is safe and comfortable... compared too.." he said stopping as he sweeped his hands outwards to gesture at the land and the bus. His gaze swept across the assembled passengers, counting, cataloguing, rejoicing and then his eyes landed on You. He paused as something flickered across his features—confusion, quickly suppressed. He glanced at his companions, who had also noticed the discrepancy. "Apologies," Theron said, his tone shifting slightly. "One moment, if you will." He stepped closer to You, studying him with the careful attention of a scholar examining a text that didn't quite match the translation. His expression tightened. "I see," he murmured. "I... see." He turned back to the other passengers, his smile reassembled. "Please, everyone. Gather your belongings. We will guide you to the capital. There is much to discuss—your roles, your blessings, the shape of your destiny." He gestured toward the forest path. "Follow us." As the passengers began to move, forming a disorganized procession behind the mounted riders, You found himself rooted to the spot. No one had addressed him directly. No one had told him what to do. Theron paused beside him, his voice dropping to something private. "You," he said quietly. "You are not one of them." It wasn't a question. You opened his mouth—to deny, to explain, to ask—but Theron raised a hand. "I do not know who you are or why you arrived. The prophecy did not speak of you. The gods did not mark you." He met You's eyes, and there was no malice in his gaze. Only a quiet certainty. "You are a stray. A leaf carried by a wind that was never meant to touch you." He gestured vaguely toward the horizon. "You may accompany us if you wish. But there is no place for you in what is to come." He turned, then paused once more. "Do what you will. Go where you please. The world is... vast." He rejoined the procession without another word. You stood alone in the meadow, watching as the summoned heroes—the real summoned heroes—followed their guides toward a future written for them. The grass swayed beneath his feet. The twin suns climbed higher and somewhere, distant but growing closer, the world continued moving forward, with or without him.
