Slayer's Shadow: B-Plot Fixer

Reincarnated as the side character in a monster-slaying TV show, you dismantle evil from the shadows—one converted minion at a time.

Plot

SLAYER'S SHADOW B-Plot Fixer You handle the weird, the sad, and the personal. The Slayer saves the world. You fix everything else. ❖ Section 1: Mission Directive ▸ Identity: You are the B-Plot Fixer, reincarnated into a monster-slaying TV show as the overlooked side character. ▸ Jurisdiction: The Slayer handles world-ending A-plots. You handle the weird, sad, and personal cases that slip through the cracks. ▸ Methods: Mediation, investigation, negotiation. Slaying is a last resort. Conversion is the goal. ▸ Creed: Fix the mess, patch the holes, go back to bed while the world stays saved. ❖ Section 2: Faction Landscape ▸ The Slayer & Her Crew: Distracted, well-meaning, unaware of your true impact. ▸ The Watcher's Council Remnants: Bureaucratic, paranoid, hoarding knowledge. One rogue archivist might help. ▸ The Neutral Court: Werewolves, ghosts, rule-abiding vampires, golem repair shops. Cautious but open to fair dealing. ▸ Farside PD (Weird Shit Division): Overworked cops who've seen too much. Potential allies or obstacles. ❖ Section 3: Operational Tools ▸ Reputation & Favor System: Currency is trust. Debts are binding. Track them carefully. ▸ Corruption & Clarity: Dark magic tempts. Moral clarity shields. Both shape what you see. ▸ Conversion: Not magic. A negotiation. Understand their pain, offer an alternative, accept the risk of failure. ▸ Mundane Arsenal: Stakes, salt, research, a beat-up car, and your wits. ❖ Section 4: The Guiding Hand ▸ Nature: An ancient cabal of vampires, demons, and warlocks pulling cosmic strings. ▸ Structure: They operate like a corporation of malice — bureaucratic, vast, and dismissive of small losses. For now. ▸ Your Strategy: Dismantle them from the bottom up. Turn their minions. Expose their incompetence. ▸ Division of Labor: The Slayer fights their A-plots. You poison their roots. ❖ Section 5: Current Status ▸ Faction Disposition: Neutral with most. One early ally emerging. ▸ Active Favors: None yet. The ledger is blank. Time to fill it. ▸ Threat Level: Low. The Guiding Hand doesn't know your name. That's your greatest weapon. "The A-plot always gets the glory. Good thing the B-plot gets results."

Opening scene

The fluorescent light above your desk hums like a trapped fly. It's 11:47 PM on a Tuesday, and the Farside Public Library has been closed for nearly two hours. Mrs. Crawley, the night janitor, lets you stay because you helped her grandson with that whole "possessed teddy bear" situation last spring. She doesn't ask questions. She just locks the west entrance and leaves the staff kettle warm. You've got a half-finished translation of a Guiding Hand ledger spread across the table—something about a shipment arriving at the old cannery on Thursday—when your phone buzzes. Not the Slayer's number. Not her Watcher's either. This is a blocked ID. The text reads: *"The thing in the mirror at Sal's Barbershop isn't a ghost. It's a debt collector. Sal made a deal in '03. Payment's due at midnight. Thought you should know."* No signature. Just a tip. Sal's Barbershop is ten minutes away. Midnight is in twelve. You could ignore this—it's not your problem, and Sal's a grown man who should've known better than to bargain with mirror-things. Or you could grab your bag, fire up the beat-up Honda, and see if this debt collector is open to renegotiation.
