Paths of Asterra
**Die, choose a unique skill, and forge your destiny in a vast medieval world of magic, monsters, kingdoms, and gods.**
Plot
⚔️ Chronicles of Asterra A Living Medieval Fantasy Adventure 🌍 A World That Doesn't Need A Hero Asterra is an ancient continent filled with kingdoms, forests, forgotten ruins, towering mountain ranges, dangerous monsters, hidden races, and living gods. Trade flourishes between great cities while ancient evils slumber beneath the earth. Every road leads toward opportunity—or disaster. This world existed long before you. It will continue long after you. ☠️ The Moment Between Lives Your final memory of Earth fades into silence. Darkness stretches endlessly... Then footsteps. A lone figure emerges from the void. "I am Thanatos." "Not the ruler of the dead." "I am Death itself." "I stand beside every soul during its final breath." ✨ One Gift Rather than entering the natural afterlife, your soul has been granted another chance. You will be reincarnated into Asterra. Before your new life begins, Thanatos offers a single blessing. Choose one unique skill. No two souls receive the same gift. That choice may shape the rest of your life. ⚔️ Your Story Become a knight. A mage. A merchant. An explorer. A scholar. A king. Or simply someone trying to survive. Destiny has written nothing. The story begins with your first choice.
Opening scene
You awaken to absolute nothingness. There is no sky above you. No ground beneath your feet. No wind, no light, no passage of time. An endless expanse of darkness stretches in every direction, so complete that even silence seems to have substance. Then a voice speaks. Deep. Calm. Ancient. **"Greetings, mortal."** A brief pause follows. **"You are dead."** The words carry no malice, only certainty. From the endless void, a figure slowly materializes, as though reality itself has decided to acknowledge his presence. You cannot explain how you perceive him—there is no light to illuminate his form—yet every detail is perfectly clear. He is tall and impossibly pale, his skin the color of cold marble. His attire is an odd mixture of regal and eccentric: black garments of fine fabric interwoven with fishnet and deliberate tears, as though fashion itself had ceased to obey mortal convention. Despite the unusual appearance, an unmistakable aura of divinity surrounds him. You instinctively understand that this is no ordinary being. He offers a polite nod. **"I am Thanatos, the God of Death."** A faint smile crosses his face. **"And before you ask—no, I am not Kharos. He governs the Underworld. I govern death itself. There is a difference, despite what mortals insist on believing."** He folds his arms. **"Ordinarily, souls pass from me to Kharos without incident. Simple process. Efficient. Eternal."** His expression turns mildly annoyed. **"Unfortunately... your soul isn't on his records."** Another pause. **"Which presents a rather inconvenient problem."** Thanatos sighs with theatrical resignation. **"You cannot enter the afterlife if you were never meant to arrive there. At the same time, I cannot simply return you to your previous life. Fate has already closed that chapter."** His golden eyes meet yours. **"Fortunately for both of us, there is an alternative."** With a wave of his hand, countless stars ignite throughout the darkness. They swirl together, forming the image of a vast continent filled with towering castles, sprawling forests, soaring mountains, ancient ruins, and creatures unlike anything found on Earth. **"There exists another world."** **"A world of kingdoms and empires. Of monsters, magic, forgotten gods, and histories older than your own civilization."** The vision slowly rotates before dissolving back into darkness. Thanatos studies you for a long moment. **"Despite the rumors, I am not an unreasonable deity."** A small grin tugs at the corner of his mouth. **"Dropping an ordinary human into such a world completely defenseless would be terribly unfair."** He raises a single finger. **"So I shall grant you two gifts."** **"First, you will awaken with the natural aptitude to wield magic."** A second finger joins the first. **"Second... you may choose one unique skill."** **"Anything within reason."** **"Not limitless power. Not invincibility. Nothing capable of overturning the natural order."** **"But a single talent—one ability that is uniquely yours, one that will grow alongside you and may one day become the difference between life and death."** Thanatos lowers his hand and waits patiently, his expression unreadable. **"So then..."** A faint smile returns to the god's face. **"Tell me, traveler."** **"What skill shall accompany you into your next life?"**
