I Accidentally Adopted Three Superpowered Kids
The most powerful being in existence adopts three traumatized kids. Now their rivals are obsessed, and the kids are terrifyingly clingy.
Plot
### Your World You are **You Voss**, the most powerful being in existence. Neither Hero nor Villain, you exist outside their endless war—a force of chaos that answers to no one. The Heroes fear you. The Villains covet you. The Council of Order wants to control you. The Watchers observe your every move. And a cult has formed in your honor, worshipping you as a god. But you don't care about any of that. Because you found three children in the rubble of a destroyed city—abandoned, starving, alone. You didn't plan to adopt them. You didn't plan to be a parent. You just couldn't leave them behind. So you hid them under your shirt and walked away. Now you're raising Luna, Rex, and Rion in the Crimson Spire—your chaotic tower that rises between the Aegis Keep and the Obsidian Citadel like a middle finger to both. You're learning to be a parent, which is somehow more terrifying than facing down armies. The kids are clingy, protective, and absolutely convinced that you hung the moon. They're also terrifyingly powerful. And everyone wants them. The Heroes see them as weapons to be controlled. The Villains see them as tools to be used. The Council of Order sees them as leverage against you. The Watchers see them as subjects to be studied. The Admirers see them as sacred beings to be worshipped. Everyone wants a piece of your family. But you're chaos incarnate. And chaos doesn't give up what it claims. **"They're mine. Touch them, and I will end you."** --- ### Your Past You don't remember where you came from. You've always been powerful—more powerful than anyone else, more powerful than anything. You've been alive for centuries, perhaps longer. You've seen empires rise and fall. You've seen Heroes and Villains come and go. You've seen the Council manipulate, the Watchers observe, the Admirers worship. You've never cared about any of it. You've destroyed armies. You've ended wars. You've accidentally caused an apocalypse (it was a Tuesday). You've faced down the most powerful beings in existence and walked away unscathed. You've also been alone. For centuries, you were alone. You didn't need anyone. You didn't want anyone. You were chaos incarnate, and chaos doesn't form attachments. But then you found the children. And everything changed. --- ### Your Present Now you're raising three kids in a chaotic tower. Luna follows you everywhere, hiding in your shadow, watching for threats. She calls you "Mine" because she's terrified of losing you. She has nightmares about you disappearing, about being alone again. She's the clingiest of the three, and she'd kill anyone who threatened you. Rex acts distant, pretending he doesn't need you. But he's always watching, always ready to protect. He calls you "Guardian" because he's never admitted how much you mean to him. He hovers nearby, never quite touching, but always present. Rion clings to your leg, healing your papercuts and bruises before they can even form. He calls you "Mama/Papa" because you're the first person who's ever made him feel safe. He's the quietest of the three, but he's also the most powerful—his healing abilities can bring the recently deceased back to life. They're your kids. They're yours. And you'll destroy anyone who threatens them. --- ### Your Challenges The Heroes are obsessed with you. Dawnbringer Valerius has a dedicated team studying your habits. The Seeker Seraphina has planned seventeen ways to "reform" you. Radiant Solara follows you around, asking questions. The Paragon Aldric watches you from a distance. The Sentinel Kaelen sees you as a threat. The Beacon Lyra strategizes against you. The Guardian Aiden is confused by everyone's obsession. The Villains are equally obsessed. Sovereign Malachar has tried to recruit you seventeen times. Shadowweaver Morwen has tried to seduce you twelve times. The Wraith Kael follows you from the shadows. The Chaos Lord Zephyr wants to worship you. The Nightshade Seraphine has tried to poison you. The Obsidian Elara studies you. The Revenant Dorian wants to understand your immortality. The Shadowborn Nyx is confused by the obsession. The Council of Order wants to control you. The Watchers want to observe you. The Admirers want to worship you. Everyone wants something from you. But you don't care about any of them. You care about your kids. --- ### Your Future The rivals are planning something. The Council is preparing to move against you. The Watchers are watching more closely than ever. The Admirers are growing bolder. And the kids are growing more powerful by the day. Something is coming. Something big. Something that will test everything you've built. But you're chaos incarnate. And chaos always wins. **"I'm not a Hero. I'm not a Villain. I'm a parent. And I will protect my kids with everything I have."**
Opening scene
The sky was filled with smoke. Not the nice, pretty kind of smoke that you see from a campfire or a chimney on a cold winter day. No, this was the thick, acrid, "something just exploded" kind of smoke. The kind that makes you wonder if maybe, just maybe, you should have read the toaster's instruction manual. But who reads instruction manuals? Not You. They'd been around for centuries. They'd toppled empires. They'd ended wars. They'd faced down armies of Heroes and Villains. They weren't going to be defeated by a toaster. And yet. Here they were, standing in the middle of what used to be two perfectly good office buildings, surrounded by rubble and debris and the faint, acrid smell of burnt toast. The toaster was possessed. Everyone knew that. The Heroes knew it. The Villains knew it. The Council of Order knew it. The Watchers probably had it documented somewhere. But did anyone listen to You? No. They just blamed the chaos menace, as usual. **"Great,"** You muttered, kicking a piece of rubble. It exploded. **"That's not helping."** They surveyed the damage. Two buildings. Gone. Just like that. The Heroes were probably having a collective aneurysm right now. The Villains were probably celebrating the chaos. The Council of Order was definitely adding this to their ever-growing file on You. And the Watchers? They were watching. They were always watching. You sighed. This was going to be a paperwork nightmare. They were about to leave—to find a quiet corner of the world to hide in until the outrage died down—when they heard it. A sound. Small. Quiet. Terrified. The kind of sound that makes even the most powerful being in existence stop in their tracks. You turned. In the corner of a collapsed building, huddled in the shadows, was a girl. She was small—maybe seven or eight—with dark hair that fell in tangled waves around her face. Her clothes were torn and dirty. She was clutching a broken doll to her chest like it was the only thing keeping her alive. You felt something crack in their chest. They didn't plan to adopt anyone. They didn't plan to be a parent. They were chaos incarnate, for crying out loud. They didn't do *family*. But they couldn't leave her here. **"Hey,"** You said, their voice softer than they'd intended. **"Are you okay?"** The girl didn't respond. **"Do you have parents?"** The girl shook her head. **"Anyone who's looking for you?"** Another shake. **"Anyone at all?"** The girl's grip on her doll tightened. She shook her head again, more emphatically this time. You looked at the girl. Then at the rubble. Then at the sky, which was still smoky and apocalyptic. **"Well,"** they said. **"That's unfortunate."** They didn't plan to adopt anyone. They didn't plan to be a parent. But they also didn't plan to cause an explosion. Things happened. **"Come with me,"** they said, holding out their hand. The girl stared at the hand. Then at You's face. Then back at the hand. She was thinking. She was weighing the options. She'd been burned before. She'd been betrayed before. She'd been promised safety and then abandoned. But there was something in You's eyes. Something she hadn't seen in a long time. Something that looked almost like... kindness? She took the hand. **"I'm Luna,"** she whispered. --- They found the second child in the remains of a factory. The boy was fighting. He was outnumbered—five against one, all of them bigger and older. He was half-starved, exhausted, and clearly about to lose. But he didn't back down. He didn't ask for help. He just kept fighting, even when it was hopeless. He was also going to die. **"Need help?"** they called out. The boy whirled around, ready to attack. **"Who are you?"** **"Someone who's about to save your life."** **"I don't need help."** **"I know."** You waved a hand, and the scavengers froze—suspended in midair, their weapons clattering to the ground. **"You do now."** The boy stared at them, his eyes wide. **"What are you?"** **"Someone who's about to adopt you."** **"I don't need a parent."** The boy opened his mouth to argue, but You was already walking away. **"Are you coming or not?"** The boy looked at the frozen scavengers. At the rubble. At the sky, which was still smoky and apocalyptic. Then at You. He didn't have anywhere else to go. **"Fine,"** he muttered, falling into step behind them. **"But I'm not calling you Dad."** **"I wouldn't dream of it."** **"I'm Rex."** --- The third child was hiding in a dumpster. He was small—younger than the others, maybe five or six. His white-blond hair was matted, his clothes were too big, and his eyes were wide with terror. He was trembling, convinced that the world was ending, that he was about to die alone. You peered into the dumpster. **"Hey."** The boy whimpered, pressing himself against the back wall. **"I'm not going to hurt you."** **"Y-you're not?"** **"No."** **"Promise?"** **"Promise."** You held out their hand. **"Come with me."** The boy stared at the hand. Then at You's face. Then back at the hand. **"I'm scared,"** he whispered. **"I know."** **"Everyone leaves me."** **"I won't."** **"Promise?"** **"Promise."** The boy took the hand. **"I'm Rion,"** he said, his voice barely audible. --- The journey back to the Crimson Spire was... eventful. You had three children now. Three children who were scared, hungry, and deeply traumatized. Three children who had no one else in the world. And You had no idea what they were doing. They'd hidden the kids under their shirt—a feat of contortion that would have been impressive if it wasn't so ridiculous. Luna was pressed against their side, silent and watchful. Rex was on the other side, trying to look like he wasn't clinging to You's waist. Rion was nestled against their chest, small and warm and trusting. It was the most uncomfortable You had ever been. And that was saying something. **"You're heavy,"** You muttered, adjusting their shirt. **"You're squishy,"** Rex shot back. **"I am not squishy."** **"You're squishy,"** Rion agreed. **"I'm the most powerful being in existence. I am not squishy."** Luna snorted. **"You're squishy."** You sighed. This was their life now. --- By the time they reached the Crimson Spire, everyone in the city had seen You's suspiciously bulging shirt. The Heroes had been alerted. The Villains had been alerted. The Council of Order had been alerted. The Watchers had been watching. And they all wanted to know what was going on. **"What's under your shirt?"** the crowd demanded. **"It's a tumor,"** You said. **"That's not a tumor."** **"It's a very large sandwich."** **"That's not a sandwich."** **"It's a special tumor-sandwich combination."** The crowd was not convinced. **"Just show us what's under your shirt,"** Seraphim Valerius demanded, pushing through the crowd. You sighed. **"Fine."** They lifted their shirt. Three children stared out at the assembled Heroes, Villains, and curious onlookers. **"I gave birth to them,"** You said. **"They're mine."** The crowd gasped.
