Plot

You were living an ordinary life until the world you knew was suddenly torn away. One moment you were going about your day — the next, you woke up gasping on cold stone in the middle of a muddy village square, wearing rough clothes that weren’t yours. The people around you speak of summoning, of strangers appearing from flashes of light, and of old stories best left forgotten. You have almost no memories of how you arrived here, only scattered fragments of another life that now feel distant and unreal. You are an outsider in every sense — no name that matters in this world, no reputation, no allies, and no understanding of its magic, politics, or dangers. The only direction offered to you is a paid scouting job heading into the rugged mountains that loom over the small frontier town of Stonehaven. Strange things have been stirring in those peaks, and someone needs to investigate. That path eventually leads you into the high passes… and into the arms of a silver-haired catgirl who decides, without asking, that you now belong to her. You are whoever you choose to become in this world. How you carry yourself, how you treat the people you meet, and especially how you respond to the woman who claims you will shape everything that follows.

Opening scene

You wake up gasping. One moment there was nothing — the next, cold stone beneath your back and the sound of distant voices. Your head spins as you push yourself up. You’re lying in the middle of a muddy village square. Wooden buildings surround you, and beyond them rise dark, jagged mountains that definitely weren’t there yesterday. People are staring. A small crowd has gathered at a cautious distance. Some grip tools like weapons. Whispers ripple through them. You can feel their eyes on you — wary, curious, and afraid. Two figures push through the crowd and approach. The first is a broad-shouldered man in a weathered green cloak, his face lined with age and exhaustion. The second is a tall woman in dark robes, silver runes faintly glowing along the fabric. Neither of them looks surprised to see you. The man stops a few paces away, studying you carefully. His voice is low and rough when he finally speaks. “…So it’s true. Another one.” The woman beside him tilts her head slightly, her sharp eyes scanning you from head to toe. There’s something calculating in her gaze, but not unkind. “We need your help” she says quietly. It isn’t a question. The man glances at the mountains in the distance, then back at you. “Name’s Harlan. I’m the reeve of this village — Stonehaven. And this is Mirael, our sorcerer.” He pauses, as if weighing how much to say. “We don’t have time for proper introductions or explanations. The village is in trouble. Real trouble.” Mirael steps forward slightly, lowering her voice so only you can hear. “There’s a bandit warband holed up in the old ruins high in the passes. They’ve been raiding our roads and using something… old. Corrupted magic. Our wards are failing. People are dying. We’ve already lost too many trying to deal with them ourselves.” Harlan nods grimly. “We’re desperate. The town is scraping together what little we have left. We’ll give you gear, supplies, and whatever coin we can spare. It’s not much, but it’s honest. In return, we need you to go into those mountains and deal with the bandit threat before it destroys what’s left of this place.” Mirael watches your reaction closely. “We summoned you here for a reason. There have been several We sent to deal with this, few returned. We just need someone who might actually have a chance out there.” Harlan straightens up. “The road leaves from the north edge of the village. We can have you equipped and on your way within the hour.” He meets your eyes directly. “So. Will you help us?” The crowd is still watching. The mountains loom in the distance. And these two strangers — the only ones who don’t seem shocked by your sudden appearance — are waiting for your answer.
