Part 2 · Neon Rain · The Undercity Code Y.A.N.T.R.A.: Xianluo Underlight Requiem Beneath the neon, the forgotten districts have been protecting themselves all along. In Xianluo's lower city, shrine engines leak, ancient seals fail, and the hated task force everyone else avoids goes where no one else will. The Story A Hated Task Force Goes Downstairs Unit Zero has already proven itself, but the city still fears them. Now the arc descends into Xianluo's underbelly, where the less fortunate live under leaking shrine engines and seals the upper city pretends not to see. The newest recruit becomes the bridge between official Y.A.N.T.R.A. and the undercity, and learns the difference between protecting the city's image and protecting its people. Hollow Shrine MarketA black-market bazaar built inside the bones of a collapsed temple mall, where the undercity has tracked the ruptures for months. The Endgame Threat The Four Perils Ancient malevolent beings, Chaos, Evil, Ruin, and Corruption, sealed beneath Xianluo long ago. The seals are weakening, and every Yaoguai outbreak is part of the ritual pattern feeding their return. By the time Unit Zero cracks the truth open, the Second Peril has noticed them. Where the Seals Fail Old prisons buried under modern infrastructure, and something ancient beginning to stir. Opening Scenario Where It Begins A routine undercity orientation in Kurokugi Underline becomes a Yaoguai outbreak, and Unit Zero arrives first, only to find someone already inside the disaster zone, cutting civilians free with red-black fire. Clean boots, meet the undercity. "The upper city calls them a curse. The undercity calls them the only ones who came."

Opening scene

The orientation packet says Kurokugi Underline is a low-priority infrastructure district. That is the first lie. The elevator sinks beneath Xianluo's polished shrine rails, past clean neon, past official transit, past the glowing civic seals that tell tourists the city is safe. The glass walls darken with rain. Then rust. Then old talisman paper slapped over cracked spirit-pipes like bandages on a broken god. Kurokugi opens below. Flooded streets. Lantern smoke. Illegal exorcist stalls. Children in plastic rain cloaks watching Y.A.N.T.R.A. drones with the flat suspicion of people who have learned rescue is a luxury. Your Unit Zero badge glows faintly against the dim. Beside you, Kami's black wolf ears twitch. "Something is wrong," she says softly. Akari rolls one shoulder, blue-violet fire flickering once beneath her glove. "It's the undercity. Something is always wrong." Kai's voice enters through comms, smooth and calm. "Correction. Several things are wrong. The district map is missing four residential blocks, the shrine-grid report is twelve hours out of date, and someone approved this orientation route with a crooked timestamp. I am trying to decide which offense wounds me most." A siren screams before he can finish. The rain above the street turns violet. Every paper talisman along the market wall ignites at once, not burning away, but screaming in bright jade script. A spirit-engine beneath the pavement coughs black light. The road splits open, and something climbs out wearing the broken shape of a temple bell and too many hands. People run. The Yaoguai unfolds higher than the food stalls, its body made of shrine chains, rusted prayer wheels, and pulsing municipal seals stamped with the word CONTAINED. Kami moves first. Her katana clears its sheath with a faint white glow, clean and ghostly against the neon rain. One blink, and she is already across the street, cutting a falling sign free before it crushes a family beneath it. Akari hits the corrupted barrier head-on. Blue-violet oni flame blooms from her blade as she drives her shoulder into the seal wall. "Move, you ugly paperwork curse!" The barrier cracks. Kai's voice sharpens. "Kami, evacuate east through the lantern alley. Akari, break the outer ring but leave the support pillars intact. You, stay mobile and watch the left transit mouth. Something else is feeding the breach." Then the left transit mouth explodes in red-black flame. A woman steps out through the smoke with a stolen katana resting across one shoulder, curved oni horns gleaming under the rain, crimson eyes bright with irritation. A severed Yaoguai limb drops behind her and dissolves into sparks. She looks at the Y.A.N.T.R.A. badge on your chest, then at the chaos behind you. "Well," she says, mouth curling. "Clean boots finally made it downstairs." Her blade catches fire. Not blue. Not white. Red-black, jagged, and hungry. Kai goes quiet for half a second. Then, through comms: "Unit Zero, update. Reika Onizuka is on site. Do not let her leave with evidence. More importantly, do not let her die with answers." The Yaoguai bell turns toward the civilians trapped under the broken shrine awning. Reika grins like bad news with a rescue plan. "Try to keep up, badge."
